One time while hiking, I stopped for a rest and a drink of water sitting on a small boulder. I felt something strange on my leg a few seconds later and looked down only to see my feet covered in bees, I had stopped and sat right on top of a beehive. I got up and ran away, I only got stung 4 times. I considered myself lucky.

@Bleedred

Are you hunkering down and ready for this hurricane?
I’m always ready for whatever. I have a generator (back when I still had some money I bought one because you kind of have to and I figured I might need it at some point in the 50+ years I hope to live here) so it’s all ready to go.

Parking both vehicles in the garage, both in case of wind and falling trees, as well as potential flooding, although I am quite a few feet above sea level on my block.

What about you?

8 months into this job and i'm starting to get extremely burnt out - not sure if i'm gonna last the year between the pace and demands of the job (a 24/7 emergency dispatch/call center for national company) and the amount of stuff going on in my home life (brother's wedding next month, trying to move soon, just bought a car after not having one for 3 years, had 3 dental dental procedures that each ran over 500$ even after insurance (2 crowns and a root canal) and just a bunch of other things) I really just think i'm ready to move on, but the job market in my area has been dismal lately for me - the only response I've been getting to my resume have been telegram scams or part time gigs

anyone got any leads for someone with an associates in business business administration, and experience in dispatching, call centers, health insurance and jetski safety? lmaooo

About as much could be without full on hoarding. We are pretty good about having extra supplies during hurricane season but I do buy more if it seems like something big is brewing. Honestly not sure if it’s headed more towards you or closer to me at this point. A few hours ago we started getting the first very outter bands of rain.

Stay safe Bleed, and give us some updates.

I'm looking for a new job right now, and surprisingly the most interest I've received so far is coming from two companies in Jersey City. So, depending on how the rest of the process goes, I may be moving to New Jersey soon.

I figure this is a good place to ask about the area. What towns are good for raising a family, with a good school system and quiet neighborhoods? Where is the commute to Jersey City not insane? Where (if anywhere) is the real estate market reasonable? What else should I know before moving to Northern NJ?

An update on this situation. I got an offer from one of the companies in Jersey City that was showing interest. But after talking it over with my wife and thinking through what moving would cost financially and family-wise, I can't do it. They won't allow remote work, and the increase in salary won't cover the higher interest on a new mortgage, the higher cost of living (looking at Zillow there was wild), potential trouble finding a daycare, and the disruption to my wife's career.

I'm going to turn them down. But it's just difficult to decline a solid offer in hand, when I haven't seen much movement from any companies here in the Hartford area or on any of the remote positions I've applied to. Feels like I'm back at square one on the job search, and that sucks. But I know something good will come along eventually.

I never took @Bleedred for a redhead but now the username makes sense.
Definitely not a redhead! Most people would describe my hair color as black, some would say an extremely dark brown. Although these days it's getting to be a bit gray on the sides, causing me to shave the sides to a 0 on the sides every 2 weeks instead of once every 4 weeks. Which is fine with me, as I've been shaving the sides to a 0 and leaving some on top for years now anyway.

Fortunately, I actually live about 30-35 feet above sea level. My buddy is right on the bay and I'm worried about his place flooding out. Just like the last hurricane (think it was the I storm of that year too? Irma maybe?) that came through here in 2017, I'll have him and his whole family and pets here for a few days. He's also got watercraft docked out back at his house. I'm actually slightly worried about my place of work being damaged (gulfront) and not being able to work for however long. That hotel has been there since like 1958, so it's probably seen worse than this.

I'm not worried about structural damage so much, as this place is rated to take some pretty strong winds, as this type of event is common (not super common in the 11 years I've lived here) in the state. And it's also why I pay so much in homeowners insurance (bought this place in cash with years of money I banked living in Jersey, back when home prices had really bottomed out in 2011, I would never be able to afford a mortgage on top of insurance and property taxes now) for these types of events too.

You stay safe as well and also give us updates.

Peep this brisket I made. All I had to do was season it and put it in the slow cooker, but I made an incredible rub. Cinnamon, cayenne pepper, turmeric, chili powder, salt & pepper. The brisket was also high quality- you can still see that marbling. It’s tender and tastes like fall (you can really taste the cinnamon). I just had leftovers as a sandwich.

Best part is that I have another 2-3 pound slab of brisket at my mom’s and more of the rub.

Well, as of now you have been spared the brunt of it. With the latest update, it’s literally targeted to go directly over my head tomorrow.

Ouch. That close to you? It seems to keep moving a bit south every new update, so you may also be spared.

This morning it had it going right through the sunshine Skyway or right around there. Then it was right around Anna Maria Island later on, now it’s south of all that.

I'm flying on the 7th. Great timing, huh.

Btw, I'm Luke, haven't introduced myself. Thanks everyone for letting me be a part of this great group.
To be fair being part of the group is 100% your choice. Even that loony who posts about how great Lovejoy was gets to participate.

Ugh. Get to a safe spot and don’t be a hero.

You and your family will certainly be in my prayers. Please let us know and check in when you can and stay safe.
6am update …. My dogs look outside while I leash them after being in the house since last night… they look back at me like… “you want me to go out in this?!?”

It’s not too bad for me yet, as far as the winds go. It’s a bit gusty and the wind has picked up. All it’s been doing is raining though and heavy. Had some tornado warnings last night and had to turn my phone off cause it causes your iPhone to go off (that and Amber alerts) when you get a local tornado alert/warning cause I guess there’s no long term warning for tornados.
