So check this crazy shit out...The week before last I was away in Kansas working on a cattle ranch...Long story, but that's what I was doing. On Sunday 9/11 I wake up in the middle of the night dripping sweat and freezing cold at the same time. I go get a COVID test and everything is negative but I feel like hell. I fly home home on Monday going through waves of chills and sweat...Get home take my temperature and it 103.2. Take 400mg of ibuprofen, fever comes down within an hour so and feel pretty ok...around 12 hours later on Tuesday the fever is back to 102.6. Take another 400mg of ibuprofen and the fever comes down again...12 hours later now Wednesday 102.6 again. 4 days of this fever and chills but the ibuprofen is keeping it in check.

I call my doctor...do a video thing: Any rash? yes... Arms from poison ivy and legs from thorns.
Let me see the legs. You have an infection from the thorns. see those purple/red rings around the punctures...That is infection. Topical steroids and continue the ibuprofen...I have spent a lot of time in the woods and I never heard of thorns causing an infection...Learn something new every day.

Think I need to buy some gaiters or brush pants.

This is news to me as well. Glad you are ok. The body changes when you get older, I wonder if it’s something that didn’t effect you once upon a time but does now. I never had allergies until my mid 30s and then it hit me.

Holy crap it's cold this morning. My thermometer read 42° at 6:30.

Broke out the puffy jacket for the first time this year this morning.

I love it. Falls the best. Crisp morning and evenings, warm enough during the day to not be cold but not hot enough to be uncomfortable. On the way to work yesterday it was 53° during the day got up to like 66 I believe and by 10PM it was mid 50s again. Love it.

There is never a good time for the bedroom air conditioner to break down, but at least it had the decency to last almost all of the summer before it got cold. Unfortunately our building requires wall-mounted units, and those are $700 at the low end. That will be a post-wedding investment.

I got this print while in Vermont. To get it framed I was looking between 250 and 300$. As I thought that was stupid, I decided to do it myself. I've made some basic games before, but I decided to get slightly fancier here, duplicating the frame they wanted to charge me 300$ for.

Framing supplies, all in, cost 40$. If you factor in the specialized cutting tools I got to cut the foam board and mat, which are not really necessary, it's about 160$. So I'm still under the frame quote all in with the print included. I know it's not perfect, but it's acceptable for a first ever try at a fancy frame. Given a few more tries I'm sure I could be at the level of a professional framer. I think I'm in the wrong business...

Wall mounted ones are insane and nobody wants to work on them. We have one in our house, it goes through the wall. Died and nobody wants to look at it. Fortunately my house is relatively small and two smaller window units in the bedrooms with the doors open have been able to keep our house cool in the winter. I'm going to just remove the wall unit and patch the wall I think rather than spending 700-1000 on a new one.

Thanks! It's got some flaws, but they are minor enough that I'm not regretting the decision to not spend 300$ on a frame. Much more satisfying to build it regardless really.

Looks fantastic to me too. I've always found that anything you build yourself you're much more critical of than anyone else would ever be and that 99% of the people who will look at it in your home will never notice the flaws of anything you do unless you point it out(obviously unless it's super obvious lol)

Gonna still be paid in euros which concerns me a bit, the FX has really gone to shit Eur vs Usd ( in jan you got 1.3 dollars for a euro, now you get like 98 cents).

Have fun and make sure you hit the cultural tourist things before it gets too cold for the outdoor ones.

For the first time in over 20 years, I got stung by a bee today. Out of nowhere, walking on a sidewalk in a park and a bee stung my hand. This sucks.

Tried to move a reel for a hose from the side of the house after fall yard cleanup last week and there were hornets in it. Got stung four times. Ugh.

No one in my family had ever had a cracked windshield until a little over a year ago. An then my mom, dad, sister, and her husband each got one. Yesterday I got one. Wtf.

I remember the first time I got stung by a yellowjacket. I also remember the 20th time, because it was about 5 seconds later.

I've encountered many yellow jacket nests in my day. I remember once I was on office duty on the fish and boat commission. While everyone else was in the field, I was stuck mowing the lawn. Ran over a yellow jacket nest. Ran into the office and stripped off my clothes. They were under my shirt and up my pants legs. It was horrible. Luckily no one else was in the office....
