There is no doubt, in my opinion, that this plays a huge role here. However, to some extent, I don't think that's a bad thing. Apathy, or purposeful ignorance, is exceptionally dangerous.
Situations like the current one shouldn't consume your life. And I agree with the sentiment above that we need to do the best we can everyday and be happy that our situation really isn't that bad right now. And get outside, breath the air, do some hiking and fishing. Don't stress 24/7. Get off social media, etc.
But don't ignore what's going on completely, and don't assume it will "all be fine". There are countless examples through history of what this leads to if left unchecked. This country is not immune to it just because it hasn't happened here yet.
