I think 2007 soured a LOT of people on buying stocks which was a big reason the original idea behind Crypto led to its initial popularity. But as others have pointed out - that space is WAY more volatile than the stock market was in the mid 00s.

I respect a good majority of assets (diversification is CRITICAL) but I will always be a silverbug at heart.

is thats what's flying over new jersey?

This is the War of the Worlds radio broadcast all over again, just with a different cast of characters for the 21st century.

The story has completely gone off the rails and local media is creating a frenzy.

There might have been actual isolated mysterious drones. Probably nothing nefarious. Either security testing, or maybe courier testing,

But it's gone off the deep end and you have people misidentifing planes and stars.

And you probably now have hobbiest or kids purposefully f***ing with people now that it's a frenzy on top of it.

The amount of bullshit videos I've seen online that are so f***ing obviously either planes or stars is kind of scary. Like we can't collectively be this stupid

I'm sure there are a decent amount of people confusing drones with planes at this point, but there is most definitely something going on with a good amount of drones out there.

I'm in Morris county near where the original activity started up a month ago. First heard about the drones from my wife as it was being posted on a local town Facebook page well before any media picked up on it. Searched up drones in NJ on social media and saw a few posts at that time. Still, reports kept rolling in on a daily basis - eventually got to to point where for a week or two I was getting several notifications each night on the Ring Neighbor alert of sightings in the area - with many in the comments also noting their sightings. There were a few videos included in these reports, but obviously I can't verify - but the amount of reports and the amount of drones being mentioned make it hard to believe that there was mass confusion between drones and planes.

I also witnessed them first-hand myself with my son on December 1st in my backyard around 7pm. Recorded several videos of 5-7 drones in the area, while also using the FlightRadar24 app to confirm which lights were planes. There absolutely were a number of drones in my area that night. My wife and both sons also saw a low flying drone down the street from us this past Thursday around 7pm (I was out at the Devils game that night). They didn't grab any video, which was annoying, but all 3 said they were sure it was a large low flying drone that was just hovering there (my wife had gone to pick them up from a nearby school and saw it both on her way to get them and the way back). My brother down in Freehold also saw a number of drones over his house one night last week while an Aunt down in East Brunswick has seen them a few times. Several friends in town have also seen them first hand. There was another time I also thought I saw one flying low, but not 100% as I was driving at the time and couldn't check the flight tracker.

So yeah, while I'm sure there's a decent amount of confusion out there for some people between planes, that's certainly not the full explanation of what's going on out there. Has to be something with our Government given the number of drones out there, the size and how long they're able to stay in the air. No idea why and a lot of the speculation is a bit scary, but something is most definitely going on.

I have lots of things to say that will get me banned so I won't say them. Suffice to say, you should know that yes, we can be collectively this stupid and have proven it not only an uncountable number of times across human history but also very recently in this country.

So by drones you mean UFOs piloted by little gray aliens who abduct people for bizarre genetic experiments?

Fortunately, there are no large gaps in my memory that evening nor any er, sore spots that I noticed after witnessing them, so I'm gonna say no.

I completely get believing what’s happening is some sort of mass delusion. That thought has crossed my mind many times. But considering the mass amount of sightings by some very serious people, the multiple reports of drones flying over military installations and other closed air spaces, can’t we at least admit there is some legitimate phenomena occurring?

Writing it off as “people be people” is the easy way out. Whatever is happening is extraordinary one way or another.

Yeah, I've certainly seen plenty of fake and unconvincing videos online and I'm sure there are a ton of reports that are actually planes, but even beyond my own personal experience and those of people I know...this whole thing just didn't appear out of nowhere and there are a number of legit people in media, elected officials and law enforcement on record describing their own experiences seeing this. To just take a flippant, simplistic "people are idiots" point of view on this doesn't make sense.

For what it's worth, regarding the drone sightings, I was not writing them off as people being people. I tend to agree that this kind of thing doesn't just materialize. Something is happening. It is a little unnerving too, the response to it in particular. My comment was just to say that a scary high number of people in the world lack the basic critical thinking skills to ensure any type of objective or rational comprehension of any given situation. Or indeed to make any kind of objective decision, or form an objective opinion, about virtually anything.

Saw some guy on Twitter (who deleted the post since, but screenshots are still floating around) positing that it started as the military testing nuke sniffing drones (For dirty bombs, for example), given the proximity to McGuire Air Force Base, the size / shape of the drones and their similarity to drones provided previously to Ukraine, the government's silence on the whole thing, and some of the RF and radio details on what was earliest reported. Something like that makes sense to me, and the military being mum and secretive about it is frustrating but also makes sense.

Of course, then these original drones, not many over a relatively small area of a relatively small state, get brought up online, and then the places where the dumbest people talk (Facebook groups, the extremely stupid local news pages, and neo-Twitter) run with it and people who haven't looked upwards in decades (apparently) start reporting every 747, star, and tower with a flashing light on it as OMGZ DRONES.

It's 10% "what are these drones doing" and 90% collective overreaction to me at this point.

It does simultaneously amuse and horrify me to see the rampant (and apparently widespread) ignorance of astronomy at work here.

People have reported as “drones” things like: the planet Mars, the Geminid meteors, and I shit you not, the constellation Orion.

Incredible.
