Have you guys tried Ardbeg? Very smokey/peaty.

Another underrated scotch is Aberfeldy. Good value price wise too.
I've tried both. I tried Ardbeg many years ago, didn't like it as much as Laphroaig IIRC (and Laphroaig is less pricey) but I've been thinking I need to try it again as I do love Islay whiskeys and sometimes you love a whiskey one day, another time it doesn't impress you as much etc. so I might just love it when I try it again. I have so much whiskey on hand right now though so I probably won't buy anything else for a while.

I liked Aberfeldy, thought it was great value. Not sure if I'll get it again cause I've sort of figured out what my faves are and I just stick to those now. I also have 3 unopened single malts on the shelf ATM and I'm mostly drinking bourbon lately. That said, I signed up for LCBO notifications for Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak, I bought a bottle last year, it was great and when it comes in again I'm definitely picking up another bottle. Here are my faves.

Scotch
==============
Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin Distillers Edition (not always available)
Lagavulin Offerman edition (not always available)
Lagavulin 8
Laphroaig 10
Laphroaig 1/4 Cask
Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak (not always available)
Auchentoshan Three Wood

Honorable mention to Caol Ila.

Bourbon
===============
EH Taylor (not always available)
Blantons (not always available)
Eagle Rare (not always available)
Weller Antique (not always available)
Weller Special Reserve (not always available)
Knob Creek Single Barrel
Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

The first 5 bourbons are all from Buffalo Trace, they come in twice a year last couple of years, limit 1 bottle per customer and I'm on the notification list. When they come in I buy them, they are the ones I like the best and I don't need to buy much else as a man can only drink so much.

Edit - I haven't actually tried Lagavulin Distillers Edition yet but I picked up a bottle about 6 weeks ago, and I'm quite confident it belongs on the list of my favorites, perhaps even right at the top displacing Lagavulin 16, we'll see.

Wow I'm in a whatsapp whisky chat group with a bunch of friends. Great dialog. I've been thinking of getting into bourbon more of late.

This is a fantastic post. Thank you. Gives me more ideas.

I have a friend in Ireland who samples hundreds of whisky for company's. If anyone wants a good & unbiased review checkout his site:

Ha, first thing I see on that site is RedBreast, it's a sign LOL, thanks for the link. Irish Whiskey is my 3rd fave after single malts and bourbons and I haven't had it in years. It's a nice change of pace though, I remember I did like Black Bush, RedBreast is supposed to be excellent and I will definitely pick up a bottle of that at some point.

Bourbon's great, you just have to pick the right ones to get a good price/quality ratio. I'm so happy I found distiller.com, the user rating have been extremely helpful in my journey!

Cheers!

Unless you are a incredibly optimistic person, I think its hard to be excited for the Leafs 'yet again' with this core. The thing is, not only have Matthews, Marner, Tavares and to a lesser extent Nylander not done enough in the playoffs to lead this team to success, but I don't think they have the demeanor/will/fire required to do it - maybe Nylander but none of the others have shown enough relative to what they are capable off - 7 years is certainly enough of a sample size. Additionally, none of them (JT needs to be excluded since was signed as a UFA) do what most other star players in the league do which is to sign long term contracts while giving concessions to the team. Finally, Dubas handcuffed the team in a horrible way with NMCs to Matthews and Marner. So if we don't give Matthews whatever he wants, he could techincally say 'OK I won't sign an extention' and walk out as a UFA next summer and we recoup nothing. Same deal with Marner and his current NMC. Just not a good situation. And maybe they agree to be traded but surely it will be a team or small subset of teams of their choice and we don't recoup nearly enough.

Anyway, it is what it is. I know I'm not the only one who's lost some interest slowly with this team/organization - hardcore fan to casual fan

I'm sorry, but if you're not excited, then you're not paying close enough attention.

There's soooo much going on.

So much has already happened And so much more to come. With so much on the line anything could still go down.

Hearing Dubas went after Pridham is exciting.

He's clearly trying to get the gang all together in Pittsburgh. Which is why I'm pretty sure this jukebox hero has a certain pair of stars in his eyes. Dubas already stole Tavares away from the Islanders.

What makes anyone think this backstabber won't try doing it again with the Leafs star players?

Call it a case of premature speculation. But my guess is Dubas finds a way to get at least one of Nylander or Matthews next year. Maybe even both.

That's something exciting to think about.

I’m not sure any of that is leading to ‘positive’ excitement

Well he's not getting Matthews

How can you not be excited to see a full season of Knies? Bertuzzi, Domi, and Klingberg each add elements we didn't have. Is Woll going to take over the starters spot by midseason? Can Robertson finally stay healthy? Will we get a stud defenceman by TDL? Will Reaves pound the heck out of Bennett, Stamkos and Kucherov? Let's get this season started dammit.

Exactly. There’s plenty to look forward to. I’ll be happy to have games to watch a few nights a week, regardless. Sports are supposed to be fun, and not taken too seriously. People often forget that.

Absolutely correct. We have the privilege of watching one of the top teams in the league those few nights a week. I'll have fun watching Marner surpass 100 pts, or Matthews scoring 60 again. And if not, this place is always fun after a loss.

I don’t come through here often anymore, and tbh, I enjoy watching hockey more for it. I’ll pop in to get rumours, or check on prospect progress, but I have little kids to raise and lots going on. I stopped allowing sports to dictate my mood a long time ago.

How can you be unexcited? Leafs are going to be super entertaining win or lose as always. This place always is fun win or lose. We have nothing to talk about, and that will change. Can't wait to exchange hot takes with you all here.

And so many storylines throughout the league to follow. Very excited.

Lots of storylines to follow.
Not much interest in the West other than
Conner Bedard - ROY
Vegas - back 2 back finals

But there’s lots in the East

Buffalo & Ottawa - Can one or both make the playoffs
Carolina - Can Rob get them over the hump and into the finals
NJ - Are they the real deal
Which of the Eastern staples miss the playoffs. Boston, TB, Leafs - All, none or somewhere in between.
