Our core guys showed up very well in the last three games in the past two Tampa series. They showed up OK on the score sheet with a crazy amount of shots and chances against a hot goalie in the Florida series.

My point is, to say they don't show up is an old, inaccurate and lazy narrative.

Not from where I sit. IMHO Marner played perhaps the worst game of his career in game 3 against Florida, after that it was all over.

Yeah, Marner needs to step up his game when it matters. I agree. I am responding the broad brush statement that our guys haven't showed up when it matters. They have. Marner has been the exception and the worst of them. "He" and "they" are not interchangeable in this discussion.

You're right, my bad. I just can't seem to get over how bad Marner played and for me he's become the symbol of everything wrong with the team, the core and so on. 4 years into that monstrosity of a contract and we're still waiting for him to come through for us.

Np. I get it. I was definitely yelling at Marner through the TV again this year. I like him and keep hoping he gets past this. Having him humming when it matters would make the difference for us. Obviously it is psychological with him and I worry he won't take it to next level.

As you said though, this is one guy. People like to paint them all with that broad brush as it is just not accurate.

Are we talking about entire career or the last few years? We want to see that our core guys are growing and having more impact in big games. Thanks for going back to when Matthews was 18 and all that. Why did you ignore my past two years and final three games on the series analysis?

In the past two years Matthews speed up in the big games against Tampa in a big way. In the final three games of each series he scored six goals in six games and added an assist. Not good enough for you? He should be scoring at higher than a goal per game pace in big games?

Same team, same coach, same system (likely). Only changes were old-school tough guy additions and Tyson Barrie 2.0. No movement on Nylander/Matthews/Marner contracts when they had leverage. What's even the point of Reaves when the team seems to have a policy against fighting and even seemingly body contact? Pretty sure this is my lowest interest level since I was a little kid in the 70s. What is there to look forward to next season that will be any different than the last 6? I honestly don't get it. At the very minimum they should have replaced Keefe (not because he did anything wrong but because it would be the easiest major change - and something has to).

For scotch, Auchentoshan Three Wood is amazing value for the money! Also good value are Laphroaig 10 year, Laphroaig 1/4 cask and Lagavulin 8 if you like Islay malts.

Lately I've been drinking a lot of bourbon, more bang for the buck IMO with the ridiculous price bumps for single malts. My faves are the ones from Buffalo Trace that only come to LCBO twice a year or so and sell out instantly. Still, there are a few good ones regularly available, IMO you get the most best bang for the buck with Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Woodford Double Oaked and Knob Creek Single Barrel. Especially the Rare Breed, that stuff is amazing!
