With the right partner, he's always been solid.

Yup. He also developed some pretty bad habits playing close to 30 minutes a night on some pretty terrible, unstructured teams.

Too many mins and not trusting your partner to make simple plays with the puck can create a sense that you need to do it yourself, I do still think he lacks urgency at times though, and I'm not sure you can pin that on his partner, but if he's not searching for options that don't involve the likes of Zaitsev, it mitigates those warts in his game.

We're seeing right now the difference partners make with Sanderson, hopefully Zub can return ASAP and we can get back to talking about Sanderson as a Norris contender instead of his struggles.

He has been really good of late and bringing the best of what he has to offer, which he has done over the last few years, but sporadically. Challenge will always be his decision making under pressure.

He will never be on the same level as Sanderson for this, and it will rear its ugly ahead again sometime, just have to hope he can keep those to a minimum. With a competent D partner and Sanderson doing the hard part, that puts Chabot in a better position to not screw up as much and keep the brain farts to a minimum. They won't go away though, he is what he is at this point.

All of this and something that hasn’t been talked about is that a good coaching staff will work towards having players play through their strengths and minimize the impact of their weaknesses (a bit like Hoffman was handled back then)

I wonder if there’s posters who might venture to say that’s what happened under DJ.

hes been great

hes in a perfect role with a capable partner
Agreed. Results aren't there for the team, but it is just a matter of getting everything humming together. But this bodes well for him, personally, and outshone Sanderson . Again.

I think we are cursed to only ever have one Dman playing well....

Edit: That's not fair, Jensen has been fantastic too.

Its really nice to see Chabot's play with a capable partner and some extra support defensively from the forwards.
It really pronounces the inability to acquire a partner since Demelo was shoved aside in favor of Zaitsev and have a top 4 that allows his minutes to be more responsibly managed.

He has quietened his bashers which is nice as well.

Within a 2-3 games I think we see the entire top 4 get back to being a strength.

I do hope so, Zub and Sanderson can be a top tier pairing, and that would go a long way to improving our record moving forward. Even if Sanderson was just at 50% GF 5v5 we'd likely have a few more wins

I don't think its a curse...not everyone is going to be going every night..also the sens for years have just had poor management when it comes to actually getting good partners for their top defensemen.

All summer most of us have been saying that we are one injury away from having JBD and Hamonic both in the top 6. That's not a curse.

I think in the nhl today you can't expect any defensemen to carry a pairing. You need someone who is somewhat capable to play with Sanderson and Chabot

There's also the fact that he was apparently playing through various injuries the past couple of years and now appears to be healthy.

Chabot tied with many other Dman for top 30 in Dman 5on5 scoring.
