Maintenance day / illness. They addressed this hours ago.

Cam York was also absent for a maintenance day.
@BritainStix

I think it’s 99% just a maintenance day as reported…

Putting on my tin foil hat for a second though, if your plan is to move Laughton and you want to make sure you still get top value, putting Johansen immediately on waivers is a pretty good way to signal to teams you aren’t planning to dump Laughton. And having Johansen waiting in the wings is also a pretty good thing to make sure the current team doesn’t take a big hit if you trade Laughton.

I would dance naked on the streets if we got a 1st for Laughton right now.

I really hope they're not going to trade this 2025 1st for the oft injured Chychrun who will want a big raise and a long term deal starting in 2025-26 when he'll already be 27.

Guess they’re pulling that card again.

Yeh, I think that is bullshit really. This draft is pretty damn good, as is 2025... is 2025 looking slightly better? Probably just... but not big margins. C is where 2025 looks a lot deeper on paper.

A more nuanced explanation (which would have some credibility) would be...

"We already have 2x firsts in 2024, and feel that with this season 90% of the way through, the odds are that Colorado are going to pick ~25th-32nd... next year is a new year, and who knows what will happen... there is probably a slightly higher chance the pick will be slightly better, say ~20th, and maybe if all the stars align (like a 2% chance) ~12-15th as the future is unknown. We are rebuilding and spreading out those assets over the next two years, we feel, is a marginally better strategy."

Didn't Flahr and Fletcher once say they preferred the mid-rounds of the next year? :laugh:

Every time Flahr mentions it being a weak class, I just assume it will end up terrific. That's what happened in 2021. They're quite arrogant in their (often devastatingly wrong) evaluations. From always preferring the next class, to trading up in the mid rounds, to making a plethora of fit picks, to passing on high end talent within range of a single pick. And they don't learn from this galaxy brain shit.

Just to further illustrate their logical pretzel, they think 2024 is a weaker class. Will they trade down with the FLA 1st, since it's a bad class? Trade for a future 2nd? They traded for FLA's 2024 1st over the 2023 1st in a class they now don't like, but they apparently liked 2023 because they wanted that Bonk pick and traded a 2024 2nd to pick Bjarnason. But with ANOTHER 2023 1st on the table for Laughton (and a future 2nd), they passed it up. But they plan on trading Laughton for a 2024 1st on draft day? Or did they just telegraph that one not happening?

I think it's funny that the only 2nd rounder they have this year is a compensation pick. They only pick 6x in the first 5 rounds. In rounds 3-7, over the next 3 drafts, the only extra pick they currently have is the Hayes 6th rounder for eating half his contract. This is a team that hates picking in volume, and I'll bet money they trade multiple 1sts+2nds in the next 12 months.
