Friedman on the pod mentioning that the Flyers could looking at an inexpensive goalie and that if they get one that it is a sign they’re serious about making the playoffs. The Leafs are worried about a team like the Flyers claiming Martin Jones
I have no doubt the Flyers would be interested in adding a cheap upgrade to Felix the Splat and Cal Bleakersen.

Could come as part of a bigger trade. Or they could trade a late pick.

Don't the Oilers need to get rid Campbell for some cap room?
Yes. And it would not surprise me if Edmonton is making their 1st rd pick contingent on the other team accepting Campbell's contract, which runs through 26/27 at a $5M cap hit.

That's a bad contract. I guess you could give them Petersen with some retention to soften the blow a bit. But I'm not sure I'd trade Walker plus take on that Campbell contract for a late 1st.

IF we are paying 9 mill for Risto and Walker next year, fire every single person in Flyers management.

4 years for Walker should get you checked into an instittution.
Walker's a good player. If they extend Walker, they'll trade Risto in the offseason instead. I don't see the problem if that's how it plays out.

I mean most of us knew that it was never a rebuild, but deep down I did believe that there was a 10% chance that Briere had some smarts and knows this team isn't a contender

5 more years from being 5 more years away.

May as well extend Seelsy too and make our run !!

The problem would be that you’re passing on the ability to get a premium rebuilding asset (a 1st round pick+), and then you’re signaling to the entire NHL world “HEY WE HAVE TO MOVE RISTO NOW!!!” the same way we did last season with Kevin Hayes. And at that point, moving him would require max retention and would minimize the draft compensation we get back.

So instead of having a 1st++ and a clean cap, we have a 4th, a 30 year old Walker on a 4 year deal, and dead cap for years and years into the future.

"we owe it to the room to make this PO push! we will revisit the rebuild next year"

then miss the POs And never return to a proper rebuild..

And with the Kevin Hayes comp, we also saw that interest at the deadline does not translate to interest in the offseason. We weren't able to rely on Columbus bailing us out in the summer like that might have at the deadline.

Simply relying on interest in Risto to remain static while we re-sign Walker is a risk itself. It takes one coach/GM firing or one separate trade for a potential Risto suitor to no longer be a fit.

Trade Walker now, get the premium asset.

Agreed. Taking on Campbell's contract should be worth a 1st+ on its own. I like the idea of swapping Petersen (1 year left) and Campbell (3 years left) for a 1st, then retained Walker for Ceci and a 1st.

Hi guys, Stars fan coming in peace, always loved the Flyers as an Eastern team but I haven't kept up with the team in a while.

In the event that Walker or Seeler are traded, could you tell me:
A) is Seeler reliable defensively? Like would be be a really solid 5-6 with some grit? We have Hakanpaa and he might be the lowest hockey IQ big body in the league and I would love to replace him with a guy like Seeler
B) Dallas could use another RHD, I know Walker has some offensive flash, but how is his defensive game?
C) What is a realistic cost you guys are looking for either of them?

Or trade Walker now
Trade Risto whenever possible
Sign Walker as a UFA

Quite simple.
They could try that. They may. It's a gamble.

If you have a bird in hand & can get Walker to agree to a palatable extension, is it worth, say, a late 2nd rd pick to trade him, and then have to compete with other teams to sign him in the summer, at possibly a significantly increased cost to the team if you can even get him at all?

I think that's what they have to weigh. And it will depend on what Walker is willing to agree to on an extension vs. what trade offers the Flyers are receiving.

The problem would be that you’re passing on the ability to get a premium rebuilding asset (a 1st round pick+), and then you’re signaling to the entire NHL world “HEY WE HAVE TO MOVE RISTO NOW!!!” the same way we did last season with Kevin Hayes. Why are we presuming the Flyers can get "a 1st round pick +" for Walker?

Tanev didn't get a 1st.

Is he though..or just having a year where he is playing above his norm
I’m not too worried about him not being a good player / regressing. He was a good player in LA before the injury. His play style seems to be particularly effective in Torts system. He pops pretty much every game you watch, whether its a nice rush up the ice or a great read on when to pinch.

I don’t know what there is that could regress.

All else being equal, I’d love to have him and to kick Risto to the curb, but all else is not equal.
