Would going after 2025 picks make sense if the intention is to use them as offersheet compensation?

I don't know who they'd offer sheet, and they already have all their picks to do so.

Offer sheets so rarely happen, and I feel immeasurably confident saying that Keith Jones (who wants both teams to win trades, who gushes over GM friends keeping Gauthier a secret, and who is a card carrying country club member) would never allow the Flyers to submit an offer sheet. It would be uncouth.

They rarely happen, and even more rarely work. If anything they are eyeing up Draisaitl when he hits UFA.

Lots of negativity in recent posts. They are gonna resign 30 year old warrior good locker room guy seeler and 29 year old regressed to his mean sean walker. All they have to do is make the playoffs once in the next 4 years and they could win the cup. Cmon guys this is the new era of orange

Flyers scouting the Manitoba Moose again. I would imagine it is for Heinola or Lambert. If they take back Schmidt they may be able to get Lambert in a Walker deal.

I’m skeptical they’d prioritize Heinola as comparable to a 1st rounder. They have York, Sanheim, Drysdale, if you’re banking on offensive usage. I know this team is fit oriented. Heinola will be a 23 year old RFA who hasn’t stuck yet. He’s probably teetering more towards a buy low.

Lambert would seem too good to be true. But it makes a lot of sense, if they want to bet on Tippett-like tools in a center prospect. His Liiga development was a disaster, but on a putrid scoring Moose team, he looks to have passed the initial test that his scoring can project up. He’s a real risk, but targeting someone like that would be a sign they know they can’t be risk averse to fix their skill deficiency (read: not Krebs). Like you said, absorbing a contract that carries into next year could easily be done.

There's a whole lot of late first round piks that don't turn out better than Scott Laughton
But that isn't the metric of importance. Laughton is in an age-related diminishing returns spiral on a team that needs to hit big on prospects. He doesn't fit the projected window of competitiveness so early-round picks are preferable to his continued play.

If they can make a few moves, and obtain lets say the 24th this year and a 2025 first next year… whatever it may be, you can still still select two or three in the 2024 first round, or maybe even get creative in a trade for a younger player, think Eichel or Chuckie trade.

This TDL is so damn important, we need darts.

Im assuming Flyers would be going for a center/forward prospect/reclamation project with any deal given the comments about depth post Gauthier trade

Great another 8 year mistake to go along with Couturier and TK. In a couple of years, they can start the multi million dollar social security line. As a rule, these contracts do not age well....

I'll take my chances with the pick

It was the most Flyers thing I could think of. I also can’t wait for that career year from TK next year and massive 8 year deal that follows.
