Imagine your a rookie trying to make the nhl team and the head coach wants to pick a fight with you and get in your face and get a rise out of you...the amount of inner strength that had to take to be polite and recognize that he is a rookie trying to break into the league and the for most coaches it would be a negative to respond in any negative way and then label yourself as difficult to work with.

Meltzer confirms that York had a bad camp... in that he got on the bad side of Torts.

He tried this with Ryan Kesler back in the day when they with Vancouver. Tortorella apparently was trying to goad him into fighting him & Kesler almost punched him out. Kesler said the next day at the skate Tortorella was kissing his ass. Tortorella was like telling Kesler he’s his guy for next year to which Kesler said laughingly that neither would even be there the following year (which happened to be the case).

I’m going off memory but I believe that story was told during Kesler’s interview on Spittin’ Chicklets.

This mf’er should be nowhere near a rebuild. He didn’t sign up for a rebuild, and doesn’t want any part of it. He’s got the perfect scenario where the front office has his back and will launch anyone who doesn’t “buy in” into the sun, have labeled this a “rebuild” when it’s actually a fake rebuild, so expectations are low and he will look like a hero if they’re competing for a last playoff spot.

And what happens if York gives in? Oh right, he gets benched.

What an idiotic f***ing process. This is exactly what Clarke was giddy about when the guy was hired, too. Everything currently employed by the team needs to be fired before they can actually successfully rebuild.

Come on guys, I'm sure it wasn't that bad. It was probably just some good ole hard rubbing. Torts has been a coach in this league for many years and knows how to get the best out of his players. He wanted York to make the team out of camp and was doing his best to try and make him play with an edge. Obviously York wasn't ready for the big show and the face washes he'd receive from players after the whistle so he had to go to the AHL. This is what lit the fire under York and he was up in a months time anyway.

Can we just get a normal coach for once? Need to get rid of Torts ASAP. Sounds like the second edition of Hakstol vs Gostisbehere. Torts starts benching York, bye, bye, trade value, just like with Ghost. Fire the coach, not the player, this time around, before it’s too late.

Um, excuse me. That tough love along with his time in the AHL turned him into the player that he is today.
