Both of them will still have trade value beyond this offseason thankfully. I'd prefer to trade both to maximize our chances at drafting 1st overall next summer, but if they don't get fair offers now they shouldn't trade them yet.
Plus you could see those being trades where they want to see who is actually available. Like they are ok trading Laughton for the #27 pick as long as one of X players is available but otherwise would look elsewhere.

The Canes must see something in TDA that we missed here last season. To get him at $1.5 is a deal at $2.5, if I were them I'd pass. He's a mess on and off of the ice. Maybe Rod B. has some magic extractor that brings things out in him that no one else can. Who knows.
They got Slavin to cover the warts in his game.

The caveat is that you have TK coming off or a relatively healthy, and very productive season. There is just as much risk imo of hanging on to him, and losing value as the months go on - as opposed to slightly selling low now.

If the Flyers had a younger Giroux in the middle I’d be with you, but TK is really the only above average offensive player they currently have imo. He’s not going to have someone helping prop up his numbers.

I’d like to hit this draft hard, but I understand your reasoning.

With two days to go, Briere is in no hurry, lot's of trades are consummated on draft day, details are arranged before hand, but conditional on players being available, or simply teams wanting to wait to the last minute to pull the trigger.

Generally speaking it's not easy to acquire disposal players (TDA) for cheap on cheap contracts.

He scored 50 points for Carolina and 40 for the Flyers last year.

Interesting that we have heard zilch about Frost. We know Tortorella isn't a fan, but he must be someone the rest of management holds firm in keeping.
That would be a sell-low situation. I don't imagine he has much value around the league. He's in his mid-20s and has one decent season under his belt. I would bet he wouldn't garner a first. That's probably why they aren't talking about him. If he is playing well at the TDL that could change.

Wasn't Frost supposed to be one of the guys Brière worked with closely while he was doing player development? I wouldn't be surprised if DB has a greater attachment to/investment in Frost as a prospect, and would want to make things work if he can.

It's not allowed because the Hurricanes are the ones that would benefit from it not the Flyers.

A team trades a player to another organization who then signs him to a new contract and then sends him back to the original team with money retained. That's the issue.
That doesn’t resolve the issue. Teams benefit and are hindered in trades all the time. Where in the CBA does it say that is impermissible for these two teams to consummate this trade? I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying I want to see the sword and crucifixion wounds, Jesus, if you want me to believe. All I need is the CBA part citation.

Zeroing on Michkov is Briere signaling that he really isnt of the flyers mindset and has a new vision, which is cool.

That said, I have zero confidence in the rest of the organization to handle a player like Michkov. Hes going to come in at 22 as "the guy" and "bigger than the team" energy undersized with an unpolished defensive game. None of those should in amyway matter with what his talent will do...but all of them drive the dinosaurs nuts.

My point is...I like where Briere's head is...but I hope he is allowed to fully change the climate of the organization as part of this rebuild so a player like that can thrive, not be run out of town. My biggest fear is we actually have a smart GM but hes going to constantly be having to "one for me, one for them" to keep tbe geezers happy...which results in a half measured failure.

With three more years in the KHL, he'll learn to play defense . . . or else. :naughty:

I would just remind you that words are cheap, and Flyers words even cheaper. Let's see what he actually does.

i would like this more if there was a guarantee that he would eventually come over and that Russia would not break out in civil war or some other bullshit over there would happen that would keep him from playing hockey at all.

sorry guys, but if Michkov somehow ends up being the pick, you won't see me approving of that selection until i actually see him playing hockey in a Flyers uniform.
