As I said in the other thread, he's probably trolling, but the implication of that exact setup is that it was Laughton's Last Supper as a Flyer. Only so many ways for that to happen, and they're not going to waive him and lose him for free.

I mean, I get it. The insiders are running with it so obviously they think it’s as close as it’s ever been. But my first instinct wasn’t that he was about to be traded, it’s that he simply made social media content.

He recreated the last supper. It’s pretty telling.

I know they basically told him he wasn’t being traded last year. But this year the comments are more towards he is going to be traded. I wouldn’t think they told him he will be traded in 2 days or something so I wouldn’t think something has to be pending, just that Laughton knows he’s likely gone.

Mediocre is being kind. For being the 20th OA pick in the 2012 draft, I would have wanted more than 658 GP/ 106/159/265/-40. Not a bust but a guy who has not lived up to first round expectations.

Consistent third line production is actually a pretty good outcome for a back-half first round pick.

Now, you could argue that Laughton wasn't exactly a swing for the fences, even at the time, which is fair. But that was a pretty poor draft (though it wound up producing a few good dmen and goalies).

Funny thing is the Flyers actually made out pretty well that year. Laughton, Stolarz, and Ghost is a pretty good haul in a vacuum for one draft, especially considering that was the last season I'd consider the Flyers to have been legitimately competitive. Of course, in true Flyers fashion, they completely bungled the last two...

Hed be a great player to root for as a bottom 6er on a contending team...def a fan favorite type in that regard.

But in the situation the Flyers are in and them not moving him for a 1st when they had the chance... he has just become the living embodyment of the Flyers gross obsession/overvaluing of bottom 6 guys bc of "culture"...which the Flyers authentics eat up and the rest of us pull our hair out over.

Problem is it is obvious that trading him now is not them moving on from thrir dumb ideology...they are simply just crowning Cates as the "next one".

His name was out there again regarding someone else in a trade rumor last week.

The value of the leafs 1st rounder next year will be almost a 2nd rounder but its supposed to be a stronger draft then this year. I'd like a prospect or someone thats closer to the nhl then having to wait another 4 years to see whoever they draft with that pick. We have a lot of picks coming up in this draft, we need to start getting in some talent unless they want this rebuild to last another 5 years
