Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid 6: Flyers Rumors and Mentions - Brick By Boring Brick

My brain started wandering to the Covid World Juniors when Foerster was on a line with McTavish (and Stankoven, ironically a better center too), and I was gushing over his work as the 3F in the NZ. McTavish had to use Foerster as a crutch even then because he was so bad defensively. Seems relevant before acquiring our future 1C.

I've been pretty on target about Foerster on everything but his passing. I still think he's a better passer than the NHL sample shows, and it might just click randomly. Give me a season without Cates and a shoulder injury.
It's funny, that WJC I was astonished that canada had Kent Johnson taking the faceoffs over Stankoven who was at 60% or something nuts in the WHL. I think that was also the tournament it was painfully obvious stankoven was the only player who could keep up with Bedard and think the game as well as him.

At least I think that was the same year, regardless, I was spot on for Stankoven.

Ah, I was including this year that just ended. He signed a 2 year contract and played 1. If they extend him in July, that won't kick in until after next season, and I'm assuming the extension is 5 years ... so 7 total years.
That is the elephant in the room. Everybody sees a 5-year deal, but he still has one year left on his 2-year deal, albeit at much lower dollars for next year. With Vladar, dollars are not the issue, the Flyers waste money regularly (still paying Bryz), but 6 more years for a goalie that has never played a full season, let alone a full season plus playoffs (🤞) -- color me skeptical....

All the "win it now" teams are getting better than the Flyers, but giving out insane contracts to players in both term and dollars. When those contracts start to implode in 3-5 years, the teams on the other side of those trades will start to be better than the Flyers -- Hockey Purgatory. However, they will still have the TK, Dvorak, Couturier and Vladar in "the room".

What could possibly go wrong?
