I don't know where you have been living, but Long serving players/leaders have routinely been moved later on in thier carreers to facilitate the rebuild process. Particularly as with MAts, if they failed to win a cup during their long tenure.

What's unacceptable is questioning if someone is a fan of the team because they disagree with your perception.

Name one player that was willing to move for their team (and not for ulterior reasons like Rick Nash).

Mats was as True Blue as there was.

The fact that you degrade him like this says everything that needs to be said about selfish fans like you...Burke fans.

They did put the team first by trying to make the playoffs.

You are trying to make them into management, not teammates.

THat is backwards. Management wanted to start a rebuild. THat is what was best for the team. Not some deluded run for an 8th place finish.

A run they finished 12pts away from achieving. :shakehead

And Mats Sundin had been following the general's orders to slaughter every single year....

And he's supposed to do them the biggest favor of all...?

Sacrificing himself to some unknown destination?

Do you have any idea how selfish you sound as a fan?

I am absolutely revolted.

Luongo is willing to do it. Good enough?

Because he knows Corey Schneider is better and younger than him..

(ULTERIOR PURPOSES ALERT)

!!!

HE came right out and said he would to it for whats best for the team.

So no ulterior purposes. YOu asked for a name and you got one.

You like your Crow med-well or med-rare?

Luongo knows he's going to get shoved aside by a better and younger goalie.

This is why he wants out of Vancouver.

Not because he is playing player-GM.

BE revolted then. That's pretty dramatic. Sundin having the NTC was in complete control over where he would go so that "unknown destination" argument don't fly.

And ya if he so freaking loyal then yes he should make the final sacrifice for his team.

Luongo doesn't have to do anything but cash his paycheck. HIs team first attitude is why he is willing to waive his NTC so Vancouver can free up cap room and get some assets in return for him. Something that Sundin should have done.

No, his NTC is so he can have control of where he goes, his reputation, and what kind of playing time he gets.

Sundin had a decision of whether to be a rental player or decide which exact team to go to (to win a Cup). He picked the wrong team..but that's okay. It's hard to predict.

No he owed no such duty to the management and ownership that led him nowhere in exchange for his blood and sweat.

It's amazing how someone who claims to be such a fan of this team can dismiss it's best player in decades as a traitor.

Tells you all you need to know really.

YOU don't get it. Luongo can just sit there and collect his money.

He is waiving his NTC to do what's best for the team.
The same thing MATS should have done. And don't even try that Rental player crap because renting himself out is exactly what Mats did.

What would be better...

Sitting on your ass and collecting a welfare cheque or working your ass off for the same amount of money?

What would look better in front of your mother or fathers eyes?

LMAO

IF he was as loyal as he was supposed to be then why didn't he make the one last sacrifice?

It's not even really a sacrifice. They were giving him the chance to win a cup.

I am not calling him a traitor. Selfish yes. Traitor no. It's amazing how someone who claims to be such a fan of this team can dismiss the selfish actions of the best player in decade, while crucifying a GM who has done everything in his power to improve the team.

Way to try and go even farther off base.

Typical ploy.

YOu are wrong and you are just trying to muddy the waters by veering off to the side on some nonsensical tangent.

Sundin owed these people nothing. Not after all the years of fruitless and tireless effort.

It's not even really a sacrifice. They were giving him the chance to win a cup.

To who? He didn't really have the ultimate say now did he? Leafs management are looking out for the best possible return, not the best chance for Mats to win. They don't need to tell him who is interested in his service.

I am not calling him a traitor. Selfish yes. Traitor no.

You basically are calling him a traitor for not giving every last ounce of him to a franchise that did nothing for him.

Sure he had lots of love from fans but he never had the glory of competing for the Cup..and that's something that Leafs MANAGEMENT never gave him. So why does he help Leafs MANAGEMENT after all the ******** they put him through?

I am not selfish for realizing that the best player this franchise has seen since Darryl Sittler owes us NOTHING as a player and can do whatever the hell he likes for all the years of dedication, blood, sweat, and MLSE ******** he put up with.

Mats Sundin was one of the greatest Leafs to ever put on the uniform, a Hall of Famer, and there is no way I could ever degrade that because he chose to ride out a few more months of the VERY SAME ******** Leafs management put HIM through.

Sundin was payed over 8M per year on avg over his last 2 contracts.

So don't make it sound like he was a 10yr old mine worker putting in 14hrs a day.

He was very well, perhaps overly, compensated for his carreer in Toronto. So damn straight I think he should have left when asked to leave.
