The wait is over: Nikishin is on the way

This seems like it should be on the Canes board, not the Main. Prospects come and go, some work out, some don't. Next.
Other teams have multiple threads on the main board that probably should be on their teams fan board. This feels like the first Canes thread I've seen all season here, I see no issue.

Hab's fans can you please stop irritating Canes fans and making them hate you? they're suppose to be focusing their hatred on the team they're playing in the 1st round. ( I still hate you guys because of 09!)

Nikishin is definitely a gem, He seems to be one of those rare players that is both well rounded and has high skill.

What I remember of him is that you could count on him to take a penalty that hurt his team pretty much every time it mattered. For a guy who doesn’t fight, it’s not great to be up over 100 PIM every year.

Just as an example to quantify — his rookie year in Hartford, he had 113 PIM. We can deduct 17 from one game against Boston, but the other 96 were ALL minor and double minor penalties. In just one game against Pittsburgh, he had TEN non-offsetting PIM (which has to be close to a record, right?) including slashing, interference, hooking, and a high-sticking double-minor. The Pens scored the GWG on the double-minor, added another PPG for insurance and won 6-4. As I skim through his game logs that year, his lack of discipline comes up over and over as he takes penalties leading to game-altering goals or killing any attempt at a comeback.

That’s the Pronger I remember from his early days. Not a goon, just very reckless and undisciplined, trying to be a bull in a China shop when the league was full of smarter bulls.

Nobody said he was a Pronger level player nor should that be taken seriously.
I have absolutely seen some of us put him up there, sorry if I misused you. I saw something in one of these posts about it as well. Someone on our board has said he will be at a Hedman level in general.

I don’t think 96 minutes is very much in the early 90’s? There wasn’t any complaining about him taking too many minors. They were using an 18 year old in the NHL and over playing him in a key role from day one. Very unfair. I didn’t see it as undisciplined as much as being a kid overwhelmed and doing whatever he had to do to keep guys away from the net. No one really saw him as a negative, we were just hoping he’d develop quickly because we needed him. The pressure point was his agent forced the Whale to sign him to a comparable contract to the ridiculous contract Ottawa gave Daigle since Pronger was number 2. Burke refused to give it to him and the owner stepped in and did give it to him after Pronger had missed part or all of camp - which also didn’t help his adjustment. There was some grumbling about the level he was at for the pay he was making. That’s a different conversation though, and it was tied to him not being a play driver offensively which was part of his hype. He was supposed to have an impact both ways.

They literally can't help themselves. The offer sheets rotted their brains

If there's a clear misinformation being told in the op, it only makes sense to correct it. It's pretty obvious what was going to happen after he wrote that. So next time tell you friend to not spread a lie if he doesn't want the thread to be derailed?
Imagine being so insecure about a prospect. Holy shit, move on.

I, for one, am entirely unsurprised that habs fans have commandeered this thread. It's a common theme around here lately.
He (the Canes fan OP) brought Demidov into it. I was talking about his comparison of Nikishin to Pronger.

*Brings up the Habs’ highest profile prospect out of nowhere*

“Why are all these Habs fans in here? They are so insufferable 😡.”

Don’t do that next time lmao

It's crazy that he was billed as a defensive Dman with great defensive IQ, and he just added to that with top tier offense.

Considering his age and experience it could be a real premium add for the Canes in the postseason.

Really? Because these were the first posts that reference or elude to Demidov in anyway.

He's not even the best prospect outside the NHL on his own team.

Not sure he’s the best prospect outside the NHL, but I’d be hyped to see him come over regardless

Uh, yes he absolutely is.

Edit: unless you mean SKA in which case I see your point. But the hype difference between these guys is the hype difference between a Montreal forward and a Carolina defenseman. They’re both top tier, blue chip prospects.

Yeah but naw. Anyone who followed SKA this season wouldn't say this. There is clearly a gap. If you wanna stretch it to the max and say they were equally good this season for SKA, Demidov did that 4 years younger.

Like, you could have make the same post without that hot take.

Pretty sure Ezpz and shello aren't Canes fans in disguise with Lafleur and Kovalev avatars going on.

Saying nikishin is the best player outside the NHL is an invite to turn it into a Demidov thread

But congrats nikishin is the best player not in the NHL now cause Demidov is an NHLer

How in the world did Montreal get Demidov before Carolina got Nikishin ?
probably because Demidov made it quite known what his intentions were for the future going into this season which is probably also the reason he didn't get as much playtime as he should?

I was talking about my exchange with him. In that, he brought up Demidov first, so he’s guilty of the same thing the Habs fans were, at the very least.

Also, he said some contentious shit right off the bat in the OP about Nikishin being “widely viewed as the best prospect currently outside the NHL”, so again, you reap what you sow. The point still stands.

Your point still sucks is more like it

I mean a whole slew of publications had Nikishin above Demidov going into this year. I googled for about 10 seconds and found 2. So its not that wild of a take.

What is wild is how insecure Hab fans are. You guys are having an incredible season. You have a really good GM who has drafted very, very well. You will likely be a top tier for a decade. If i was in your shoes, i'd be complaining a lot less.
