Norwegian news "Zuccarello blir i Rangers - og kan bli ny kaptein" Zuccarello stays with Rangers - and can become the captain.

Not gonna pretend to know much about prospects, but it's obvious people had their minds set on certain guys, and wouldn't have been happy with anything else, regardless of quality.

That's encouraging. I'd read a few week back that he was mostly abusing kids with this size around the net, so that was a concern to me. Generally if a guy is 20 or real close to 20 like he is, I try not to put too much stock in point totals in juniors.

The AHL sample is nice, but so small.

I really hope you're right on this. Thanks for typing it all out.

Well, technically he's played all of two less games than we've seen from our own 19 year old former first rounder so this point. So, that's something to consider.

Re: pushing people around, not so much. I mean look, he's in his final year of juniors. He's going to have an edge over the 16 and 17 year olds. But that's no different than anyone else. But you look at the entire picture, spread out over parts of five seasons, and that's continually, steady, significant progress. It's not like the lights suddenly came on when he was bigger and stronger than everyone.

Frame wise, the kid more closely resembles Petr Nedved than Brendan Shanahan at the moment. So I'm not sure how anyone can say he's abusing anyone.

The kid has legit top six talent. He's very smart out there. Complete player. If he keeps progressing, fans are going to really like him.

I know half this board is cry babies, I get it but why is this such a bad trade? Howden was Tampa Bay’s #3 overall prospect, even found a site that has him as #2 and compares with Stepan. They got a first and 2nd rounder. Stop being ignorant just to whine and misinform regarding the 2nd rounder. It’s conditional in that it’s at least a 2nd rounder, a first if they win the Cup. I read someone on here call th conditional a joke like somehow they could get less. It’s at the very least a 1, 2, Howden for McDoangh. That’s awful? Then it’s Nemestnikov and the Bolts 10th ranked prospect for Miller. That’s awful? I’m not saying love the trade but why are some acting like it’s bad? Plus Tampa has great prospects.

I feel like a lot of these moves point towards the signing of Kovy and i REALLY dont want to see that happen.

Selling tickets? Sure. Talent and skill? Yep. Building a championship culture and winning playoff series? NOPE

Good point with the bolded.

I hope you're right on him. If so, having him, Lias, and Chytil at all about the same age and stage can be really nice up front, especially with Zbad and Hayes already there.

Interestingly enough, Lias, Chytil and Howden have all spent time on the wing and could spend time there in the future. So it's not as if any of them are centers or bust at this point.

Howden and Foote were the two kids I liked from the TB system, which I liked a hell of a lot better than Toronto's.

For me, any deal with TB had to feature at least one of them. Which it did.

Yeah, I've always been a fan of stocking up on centers and sorting them out into wingers once they're at this level. They tend to be more responsible players by habit of playing C for years and then if you go down a C you have someone with some familiarity to step in.

Yeah, if we got Foote instead of Hajek I'd feel a lot better about it. I now Hajek had a good WJC, but that's a small sample.

I also just don't like that we didn't need to move our guy in that he wasn't a pending UFA, TB really needed to make a splash, and somehow we let them set the terms with no Serg, no Foote, etc. It really makes me wonder what happened with McD. I think there was some falling out outside of normal professional trade stuff that actually put them in a position where they did need to move him now.

would love if someone here who's complaining about howden and hajek would tell me who they reasonably wanted instead and why.

This board has been crying for a couple years that they want prospects with high upside, boom or bust guys. You finally get two more and everyone is whining bc they aren't surefire elite players although they do project to have the chance to be impact players in your top six and top 4, or potentially better. Teams do not trade surefire elite players that ARE top pairing d or top line forwards and are young and cost controlled. It doesn't happen. Those players are the ones you hit on at the draft and keep. The team does what everyone has been crying for them to do, and now suddenly I'm reading that JT Miller is a top 6 forward after years of people trashing him and calling him at best a mid six guy...
