so much of a risk they played him the night before the trade deadline...
What does this have to do with anything? The Jets weren't risking a first round pick by playing him last night. As a matter of fact, they were probably trying to maximize his attractiveness, as holding him out might have made potential suitors even more nervous considering his history

LOL so playing the night before erases the season, got it. Neither one of us knows the risk tolerance for teams today. Both of us are guessing, and my OPINION is that teams would not want to risk a first for a player who had his 5th concussion just a couple of months ago, and was dinged and missed a game last week.

Maybe I am way off but that's the way I see it. If team's don't get the player they want, and if it ends up being a conditional first based on whether Copp plays the rest of the season and playoffs for that team maybe theres a deal, but if the Jets are dead set on an unconditional first I'm not sure that happens.

So we have a decent amount of cap space now, is Chevy trying to make a big trade ?

he didn't have his 5th concussion and he missed 1 game for precaution and ended up being fine..

I'm skeptical that Stats is going anywhere. I think his value isn't that great, and that Chevy would be looking for someone to take his spot if he goes. So probably a lateral move. Hence why he might just be the Jets' own rental.

But, since it's just a guess, I guess I'll see if I'm proven wrong :)

Stastny has 17 goals and 31 points. He is a leader with playoff experience that can play centre or wing. He would be very good value for a contending team.

Well, shitty news he wasn't going to sign with us lol.

I think it also relates to why interest in McBain didn't go anywhere as well. Players see the team with Scheifele-Dubois-Lowry down the middle and centre prospects don't really see a spot for themselves in the lineup.

Copp didn’t catch a concussion on his latest time-out, if I read correctly. Also, the team apparently hasn’t discussed a trade with Stastny, so I doubt he was being shopped.

The latest info said there was an offer of two 2nds for Copp, but Chevy is looking for the 1st. I think between NYR, Colorado and other contenders, we get that 1st.

So far, we basically traded a prospect that wasn’t signing with us and a big LTIR cap hit for Mason Appleton, while getting rid of BooBoo. This deadline has been a win either way.

Have to wonder if Chevy knowing Smith wasn’t willing to sign with us was the impetus to get Appleton back. Likely hoped to have Smith play that 3RW position.

With the way our bottom 6 has played this year, they alone were the impetus. Losing Copp compounds the issue, but Vesalainen clearly isn’t working for us. Harkins has been okay as of late and Toninato has been good, but Appleton is nothing but upside, and was a bargain.

The Avs don't have their 1st or 2nd pick this season or their 2nd next season, so unlikely they were the team offering 2 2nds. Maybe 2023 1st?

If they don’t have the low-level trade chips, it makes it easier to squeeze the big one out of them. I’m okay with a 2023 1st, it’s not like a player in the 20+ range of the draft is going to make a difference immediately anyway.
