Do we have the capitol to get ALL of them? It would be nice, but we'd need to ship out some guys from the 40 man to fit them in, no?

No one on the list should be particularly expensive - maybe a guy like Lopez or Groshans as the biggest piece going the other way.

As far as roster spots, I'd drive Tapia to the airport myself, and we have a couple of relievers just begging to be cut.

Tapia has been solid as the 4th outfielder and is a top end base runner. Rather let Zimmer go or even Collins.

Tapia's been awesome for like 2.5 months now. Obviously an upgrade is an upgrade, but I wouldn't exactly be in a hurry to dump him when there are actual scraps on the 40-man.

Man if you thought Padre fans hated him before...hoo baby.

Ya know, as much as fans HATE Boras for holding teams hostage in contract negotiations, if I'm a player, he's the guy I want in my corner. The caveat being, of course, when your career begins to trend down, then he disappears from your life faster than a twinkie at Weight Watcher's meeting.

Thor, Iglesias and Robertson combined value is negative according to BTV. Obviously we won’t get them all for free, but Thor and Iglesias perhaps with some money attached for a prospect that most here haven’t heard of would be a decent guess. Robertson might cost a 11-20 prospect. Happ would be the expensive one. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs wanted Tiedemann, maybe could get the. To settle for Martinez or Groshans+

Ian Happ and David Robertson package makes a lot of sense.

Ian Happ exactly what we are looking for.

Happ+Robertson

&

One of Fulmer, Jimenez or Soto

Would be a homerun deadline for me. Not sure if we have the prospect capital to do it, but to come out with those arms and still have Moreno would be great.

Hosmer is going to get flipped to the Yankees for like, Joey Gallo or something.

He has no spot on the roster now with Bell coming over
It sounds like the Padres were going to eat almost his full salary for the next 3 years. Someone not on his NTC will take him just for his value as a lefty off the bench.

Ok I’d like to see something happen already. Not liking nothing happening so far this close.

Soto to the Padres looks like a crazy one so far

Too bad they couldn't have pulled the trigger on Happ + Robertson when they realized they were out on Soto while teams like the Dodgers were still in. Now Happ + Robertson could also result in an inflated return because of the competition.

Without overpaying it’s going to be hard for Atkins to get anyone imo

I imagine the Cubs knew that Happ was the best OF/Lefty once Soto was sorted out, and knew to wait for a better return. Lots of thirsty team out there looking for that type of player.

The whole point is that the Cubs wanted to wait to see if the Padres would get Soto, because the Padres would have been interested in those two had they not been able to land Soto. So short of the Jays just blowing them away with an offer, the Cubs weren't going to make a trade anyway until they knew whether the Padres were in or out as well.

Cubs knew Happ was next in line after Soto so why not wait? Now they get a bidding war on their guy.
