Do i want soto? Yes. Do I think we oculd beat that offer and still come out a better team? yes.

BUT as long as we address the BP we still have a shot to make major noise in the playoffs. The bp needs to be upgraded at all costs. If they do nothing there, then, I will be peeved.

Jays have a good team but if they don't improve the bullpen i don't see them going too far. Vlad is still young but as a Canadiens fan (and a Jays fan) i can tell you it goes fast. It's like it was yesterday Price and Subban were young. Jays are at a point where they must think about trading future for now like TB does.

The return now seems fair after hearing Gore was in it, but still maybe a bit light. We could have beaten it

How could they have beaten it, without trading off the MLB roster?

The prospect-angle of this package is pretty unmatched. James Wood is an absolute freak of nature so far - he looks like Aaron Judge. That kid was ~Top 10 in his draft class with freakish tools but had an ugly senior season in HS. He still got $2.6 mill from the Padres to sign and he's done nothing but mash as a pro.

Abrams, Hassell, and Wood are all high-draft picks who are performing (ie: much different from dumping Austin Martin or SWR in the midst of a shit season). I don't know anything about the pitcher, but he looks like he's dominating so I assume he's a high-upside piece as well. I don't have a huge opinion of Mackenzie Gore anymore, but with him in there it's a pretty big package.

He sucks I doubt anyone would give him the 39 he has left on deal.

I know that and they won't. But for someone that just made 100m in San Diego, would he want to end his career in D.C? On a team that has gone 35-69 and just traded away their two best players? His hometown Marlins have an opening for a lefty 1B. All moot considering he has to accept the deal, but I'd imagine if he does they'll do him right and pawn him off at half salary to someone else in the offseason.

The Habs problem was that they thought Price and Subban were enough to go average elsewhere, they never continued to develop a farm system that produced star talent like the Jays do. It's not remotely the same.

For the "too late to do anything" crowd: among hundreds of examples over the years, the Berrios trade last year broke 3.5 hours before the deadline. We're still more than 5.5 hours out now.

The Jays are going to make moves and they have lots of time left in which to do so.

39 millions reasons to stay in Washington and maybe they eat salary to trade him but he's not opting out.

What a joke the jays are. Legit like the leafs and never wanna give up anyhting to get better. The window is now and they would rather barging bin shop. Rogers would sooner spend the money on upgrading a elevated bullpen and standing room than pay top tier players. Winning and superstars sell more tickets and merchandise than a few tables and a new bar.
We've given out massive contracts to Ryu, Springer, Gausman, and Berrios essentially in pretty much consecutive years. Traded top prospects for Chapman and Berrios, also tried giving up Kirk+ for Jram

but go off!

Solution: tell them you'll agree if they flip you to the Marlins (or someone else he can't block a trade to). Nats get him, eat most of the salary, immediately flip him to someone he agrees to play for. That basically makes it a three-year trade.

Sounds like our most likely targets are: Thor + maybe Iglesias and Ian Happ, and likely a reliever from Cubbies.

I think everyone is absolutely sleeping on Susana. 18, 6'6, 235, high 90s FB and can touch 101 in short bursts. He'll rocket up lists this offseason as he pretty much already has late inning relief stuff. Lotto ticket but that's some crazy potential to go along with Abrams/Hassell/Wood. Gore is definitely a down guy but if he can develop that command to even slightly below average he should still have mid rotation potential to offer. Don't think any team out there would have topped this unless a better major league piece was on the table (Bo, Lux, Carlson).

I'm not a fan of Gore, but that is an elite prospect package. But realistically when you are trading arguably the best hitter in the game, you are going to lose the trade.

Interesting thing here is Hosmer can not only mix this deal himself, but he can use his power to nix it if someone comes to him and tells them they don't want to go.

iirc Josh Beckett did something similar when the Red Sox pulled off that mega salary dump on the Dodgers. He went to his teammates (A-Gon, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto) and asked if anyone wanted to stay. They all said no.

I imagine he goes but this is potentially hilarious

Thor, Iglesias, Happ, and Robertson would be a pretty fantastic deadline.

It would be. Kinda hope we make a move for Skubal in the offseason though.

Like the idea of going into next year with Skubal, Manoah, Gausman, Berrios.

Do we have the capitol to get ALL of them? It would be nice, but we'd need to ship out some guys from the 40 man to fit them in, no?
