I havent even scouted yet. Hung a cam last week, need to hang more. I dont start before EAB anyway, but this is the least I've ever done, usually I have cameras out in July and corn-tossing by early September.

It's been a rough year weather-wise. I have had cameras out since early August but I haven't spent as much time in the woods as I typically do this summer.

The woods are so wet this year that they really are like a jungle. The humidity just hangs in the canopy and the mosquitoes are thicker than I can remember. I can't wait for a good cold snap to break it all up.

So I've been to Cancun 3 times before this past January and I always booked my stay in a resort.

This time, I stayed in a beautiful Condo on the beach, and right where all the night life happens. It was something crazy cheap like 800-900 CAD from December 27th to like January 7th for 2.

So the night after NYE, my girlfriend and I went to Mandala beach, I decided to get bottle service, and things turned a little crazy to say the least, my girlfriend started making out with another girl, and she even let me have a crack at that girl (She promised me that will probably never happen again).

So my girlfriend and I decided to go back to my condo with the girl, and then the security guard didn't let us in,because we only booked for 2. So I told my girlfriend to go with her, and I'll sneak in from the beach. So I went back, had to walk maybe a quarter of a mile, I reached the beach, and as I'm getting in, 3 guys kept staring at me, for no apparent reason, so I tell myself don't be paranoid, and I kept on walking. After walking maybe like 10 meters, I looked back, and those 3 guys kept on looking at me, so I decided to walk a little bit faster, a couple of seconds later, I decided to look back again, and those same 3 guys started running after me. Took my sandals off, and started gunning to my condo, but there was this skinny guy who was fast as f*** and he started closing the gap.

Fortunately for me, my condo wasn't too far, and I was able to reach my condo maybe 30 seconds later, jumped the fence and got in condo. I went to see the security guard shaking, scared for my life, told him there's 3 guys that were running after me, didn't care told me to call the cops. I go to my condo, told the girl that she had to leave (at this point, I was paranoid beyond belief, and I thought it was a set up), so I told her to simply get out.

I called the cops, took them an hour to come, 6 of them get in my room, the first question they asked me was is if I took any drugs lol. They acted all surprised that an event like that would happen.

Truth is the authorities try to literally hide everything wrong that occurs.. Murders happen everywhere in Cancun. they do anything they can to not get bad press, and I understand to a certain point, because it's their bread and butter, but they have to make a better job at providing better guidance to tourists.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like terrible timing to say the least. This type of story of corrupt officials is pretty much why I would never visit a place like that. There is enough shady things going on in America for me to go looking for trouble in a Country where I don’t speak the primary language, let alone one with so many terrible stories for tourists.

This is a fantastic story lol I hope the girl made it home safe

Cancun sucks though, I don't want to go there lol i'm going to continue traveling in the US for a few more years

Tampa isn't on the coast, so sub in Clearwater or somewhere on the Gulf Coast outside of Tampa. Maybe Treasure Island, which is where I work, though it's not much of a party town. I don't even know where people go to party around here haha.
 
I would never go to Cancun myself. But it is like half the price of places in flordia for the most part so I cant blame people for that. Id rather go to Outer Banks or something myself

I went to school at UT for a little bit, there are plenty of places to party in Tampa, but you're right about it not really being close to the coast. Clearwater isn't bad I guess.

Clearwater Beach is a blast. I like the selection of divey sports bars along U.S. 19, though. :laugh:

Been considering Cancun, but my go-to place is the Caribbean. It's gorgeous, prices are right, airfare is dirt cheap, they speak English on most of the islands, and it's safe.

Been to Antigua, St. Martin, Nevis, St. Kitt, and Dominica. Never felt unsafe except once in Dominica when a tall native came over and pulled out a 2 foot machete and stared me in the eyes. He then pulled out a coconut, sliced off the top, handed it to me and smiled.

Ya, I'm sure he was. We ended up being kinda friendly. We ended up paying him to drive us around the island for a day and see the sites. Cool guy.

It seems everyone down there carries a machete. We heard a story of when the guy went to Canada. He was quite reluctant to give up the machete to get on the plane, and didn't feel right walking around without it in Ottawa.

Since 2010 I have flown into Cancun 12 times but I haven't been there in over a year. I have never stayed in Cancun. I typically go right from the Airport to Tulum on my way to Punta Allen but I have spent nights in Akumal, Puerto Aventorus, and Playa del Carman.

I have driven up and down the Maya Riviera as far south as Xcalak and into Belize...I have never seen anything usual. I think the worst thing I ever saw was a brawl on the streets of Playa del Carman among tourist. Maybe I am lucky? Maybe it's that the places I go are a little less touristy as all I am interested in is fishing...I don't know.

Something has changed in Cancun over the last two years. The murder rate has sky rocket due to drug related violence. Something new is going there and it is unfortunate. In 2010 Cancun had 4 murders.

Murder Rates
2018 — 286 (as of July 19) -
2017 — 227
2016 — 61
2015 — 37
2014 — 21

Holbox and Campeche are still very high on my to-do list but I do have some reservation with the recent uptick in violence.

But the last two weeks of the year will be in Key West :) I really get a kick watching the Devils in Key West...Not sure why.

sitting in the hospital waiting on test results - ive had stomach problems the past 3 years and back problems the last 8/9

this morning everything came to a head when i woke up at 430 AM at my exes house in so much pain i could barely move. ive got shortness of breath and I fee;l like i have a knife in my gut.

it's also freezing. in here, the medicine they gave me is making me thirsty and have to pee but i'm not allowed to drink or eat anything

similarly i'm also having stomach problems - last 3 weeks. finally going to a doc tomorrow.

i've had gas issues my whole life, but with this latest bout (i had suspected food poisoning at first), it's just been constant trips to the bathroom, and i'm feeling extremely dehydrated
