My girlfriend’s mom has wanted to go on vacation in Acapulco for a while because she still imagines it as a great vacation spot.

Anyone who goes to Mexico & leaves one of the few "green zones" is nuts. You're an immediate target. And those "green zones" (like Cancun) are NOT safe due to the police or government, but due to the fact its' been long rumored drug cartels are paid by the government to not operate there (tourist $$$$). And even in Cancun, murder has been up lately.

Are there Green Zones in Mexico City, idk. I have played there 4-5 times, took long walks and never felt anything other than safe. Once I was looking for a restaurant late and it started raining like crazy. This family restaurant had closed but saw me soaked and opened up the kitchen to make me a meal which was one of the best I ever had. It was just me in the whole dining room. Fantastic experience.

Yeah Mexico city is pretty darn safe for the most part for sure compared to the rest of the country.
I was in Mexico City last August for work. It wasn’t my favorite city to visit and the airport blows but I never felt unsafe. Now there are likely some really bad areas there, that’s for sure. It’s absolutely not the worst or most frightening city I’ve been to. A little Mexico City fact and trivia. Did you know the elevation of Mexico City is over 7000 feet? It’s almost the 1.5 mile high city.

I have friends who run a Kayak vacation company on the Baja in Mexico, and they've never had issues.

Mexico is a big country, there are certainly spots I would not go, but it is not a situation of widespread terror.

It is one of the most violent countries in the world though

You have to use extreme caution when visiting

The more you know:

This forum is the only social media I'm on now. Gave up FB 4+ years ago and dropped Twitter a couple months back. I have more important shit to deal with than reading political bullshit, seeing what people are eating, and making my life known to my "friends". And don't believe for one second only your friends would see what you post. A simple screen cap by one of your "friends" and voila! No thanks.

From Forbes:

"Mexico tops the list with 28 warnings in an 8-year period. It’s worth noting that these warnings are regionally specific, targeting sites where crime syndicates are particularly active. Popular tourist destinations like Mexico City and the Yucatán peninsula (including Cancún) are generally regarded as safe."

Hey guys, Ricky here. I'm new and a big Devils fan. Figured I'd introduce myself before posting!

Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Just a bit of advice. Don't start new threads, we like to jam all discussion under a relatively few headings(it actually is better this way). Also this aint no facebook devils forum, this is the big leagues, you best bring your A game. ;)

I was a hockey scout for many years in Europe. I will try my best to bring my abilities to the table.

Cancun has sadly become a warring cartel zone of late. It's no longer immune to the violent crime and homicides

Couldn't hack it here in the states? :fight:

Seriously though I'll be looking fwd to reading some breakdowns.
I was on assignment for the first couple of years over in Russia. Settled down in both Sweden and Finland and am now enjoying retirement :)
