Wow. Well the good news is we're going to avoid this nasty storm. The bad news is the hurricane now seems "trapped" and it's going to rain like a ****$*$*$* in parts of the south. Looks like it's going to take a full 24 hours for this storm just to get to north Florida from south Florida. Folks will be bailing out their pools.

Hope everything goes okay for the folks in Florida (and I know we have some on the board here from there). Stay safe, everybody. Hurricanes are horrible:(

I'm on the Gulf Coast, so as of now, I won't be impacted. Though I think it's the GFS that has it looping and then crossing back into Florida again and coming out over by Naples area. Still a few hours south of me, but would probably still all kinds of flooding and crazy rain.

I have a friend on the Atlantic Coast of the state, hoping for nothing to happen there.

Hurricanes are like a giant warm water ennama for the coast....and the ******* that cut down the mangroves so they can have more valuable ocean front property...Haha.

Had to put down one of my dogs (had him 13 years since a puppy) tonight, sooner than I thought as well. Dealt with this 2 other times, it still sucks.

And talking about the hurricane, I hope anyone in the area it hits stays safe.

Glad it looks like you won't be impacted, and I hope that your friend doesn't get hit by the hurricane either.

My condolences. Dogs really do become like part of the family:(

Sorry to hear this. It's only been 4 weeks yesterday that I had to put one of mine down. He had just turned 14 and probably lived longer than his life expectancy. So it was expected, but pretty hard.

Still have another one and he misses his brother. :(

Hoping we don't get hit too hard in Orlando.
First hurricane since I've been down here, so not really sure what to expect. Just kinda following the lead of the more experienced neighbors right now. No one has boarded up their windows around me, so hopefully we are far enough west to miss the brunt of it. Gas and water have become a valuable commodity!

I have friends and family in that area, and lived there 5 years myself, you'll be fine. Orlando is about as far inland as you can be in Florida, so it would take a direct hit there (which isnt happening) for the really bad stuff to occur. It's the folks on the coast that have to worry. This could be REALLY bad.

Are they closing the roads tonight? When I lived near there I went to Daytona Beach the day before a hurricane once (on purpose) to see the waves. It was amazing. The waves must have been 15 feet high or even higher. We'd put out our arms in a 'T' and the wind was strong enough to push us a few feet on the beach before we put our arms down. Only stayed 30 minutes and then left, but it was an amazing experience.

EDIT:

From NOAA

SUMMARY OF 1100AM
LOCATION...25.1N 77.8W
MAX SUSTAINED WINDS...140 MPH..
PRESENT MOVEMENT...NW AT 14 MPH
MIN CENTRAL PRESSURE...940 MB

You put that Lat/Long into GOOG, and it's basically RIGHT over the Bahamas. Terrible luck. Hope those people are okay.

Haven't heard of any road closures yet (I'm still at work until noon). Every gas station I drove by on the way to work (I work off Colonial in the Lake Baldwin area) was out of gas already.
I live as far west in Orlando as you can (right on the Ocoee line), so hopefully we won't see too much. Last I heard, we could see up to 75mph winds as far west as my place.

I'm under a tropical storm watch, but I don't expect to get much of anything on the Gulf Coast.

Last night I learned if you don't have a drop of alcohol for 2 & 1/2 months then have 5 drinks...It works better.

Is there a good explaination somewhere for its loop track?

It's weird. Everyone is focused on Hurricane Matthew (for obvious reasons), but there's actually a 2nd hurricane to the east of Matthew (Nicole), so Matthew is getting "blocked" basically from going east and north and gets folded under. Given this is a timing issue and extremely difficult for computer models to nail, it will be interesting to see if it happens, but multiple models say it will. So if there's one thing with this entire forecast that might go wrong, IMHO it's this full circle loop they're predicting where Matthew gets all the way back to South Florida. I say that simply from observing how difficult it is for the computers getting "if this happens first" then "this will happen next" timing issues correct with large storms. For instance, were Nicole to weaken, Matthew could move up. That said, Nicole is actually getting stronger than they predicted, so maybe the computer models will be correct.

Wouldn't shock me. I've definitely noticed that if I drink on Friday night, it takes much more on Saturday night to feel the same effect. Almost like your body gets a short-term tolerance.
