I only like the first few Iron Maiden albums, same with Judas Priest. Metalica is another one. Everything after And Justice For All is gross. I mean, I guess it's okay for a rock band. It's just nothing like their earlier stuff, I loved their thrash stuff.
They started to be a little more blah later in their careers. It's very similar to the punk bands after they got popular or signed to major labels, even though it was a different genre of music. It's all part of the music industry and business. I never held it against bands that spent years putting out music in the underground music scene, one they signed to major labels. It was just that when they signed to these labels, most of them changed their style of music significantly and to be more radio/mainstream friendly.
Smash by the Offspring is an awesome album, it was never supposed to get popular. Everything after that though, there's a couple good songs on the next few albums. A lot of it was horrible though.
The bands that got signed to major labels but didn't change much musically, they never lasted long and were dropped after just one or two albums and never had a charting radio single or hit. Sick Of It All comes to mind right away. Their two major label releases were awesome and not a huge departure from their earlier stuff by any means. But no one bought their record because it wasn't friendly to the ears. And the radio never played their songs because it wasn't radio friendly.
The first few albums that Bad Religion put out on Atlantic were not that bad. They weren't too much of a departure from the previous two albums before that. But they didn't really catch on. And then they made one ''Radio friendly'' album on Atlantic and it was a dud and completely bombed. Most of the people who loved the band for the first 15 or 20 years before that thought it sucked, people who loved Blink 182 and Green Day also thought it sucked. It was a complete failure and they started putting stuff out on Epitaph again after that and stayed for good.
