Well, it can't be any worse than this unmitigated disaster:

I don’t know if Mario is the right franchise for a big screen adaption but they do have other properties that they could make into movies.

Legend of Zelda is the most obvious one,
Star Fox and Metroid

this is now worth watching

Live-action I would be highly skeptical on, but I think an animated Super Mario Bros could work great.

I might be interested, but only if the animation is 8-bit and it ends in a cliffhanger.

Apparently there's a Donkey Kong spinoff movie in the works, too:

It'll probably involve Pauline rescuing Mario from Donkey Kong. :sarcasm:

Seriously, I know that he'll be the hero and, in fact, it's kind of surprising to me that he's been one for twice as long as he was a villain. He'll always be a villain to me, though.:wally:

I think canonically (well, the canon that Rare made up, anyways), the villainous Donkey Kong that you're referring to is technically Cranky Kong. Donkey Kong Jr. from the Arcade sequels/Super Mario Kart is his son, and the modern Donkey Kong is Jr's son/Cranky's grandson.

Also, your last sentence is very Cranky Kong.

This'll probably be my Mario Kart-loving son's first movie in the theaters (it'll come out a couple weeks before his 5th birthday), so I'm looking forward to this.

I'll probably hold off on watching any trailers or teasers like I do with basically any film that I'm interested in, as I like my movies to be as visually fresh as possible.
