it was only shortened becasue we didnt need an extra arm in the rotation and we had a very long road trip, where hutchison is awful on the road, and its not like he was bad on friday, pitched 7 innings, 1 earned run, 7 k's

I'm talking about playoffs.

Price - Estrada - Buehrle - Dickey

Hutch and Stroman piggyback if one of the other 3 fall into a september slump.

Am I misunderstanding something? What if the Jays get longer days of rest? I.e. We win each series without a loss a'la KC last year and wait for the other teams who go to game 6 & 7? Doesn't that give more days of rest for our players.

I think it may be a little premature to guess that. Its fun for sure :) but a lot can change.

You're right. If we end early even more starts for Price/Stro.

I've been on the Stroman hype train and it still seems excessive to me (or maybe he just comes back really fresh and dominates everyone)

Dickey is 100% in the playoff rotation imo - I see it like this (assuming we win the East and don't have HFA in the ALCS)

ALDS: Price, Dickey, Buehrle, Stroman, Price
ALCS: Buehrle, Price, Stroman, Dickey, Buehrle, Price, Stroman
WS: Price, Dickey, Stroman, Price, Buehrle, Dickey, Price

I don't know how Estrada doesn't get in there but yeah...

You need more starts from Price+Stro. You only ever use any other starters to get these guys a rest.

I don't see why Stroman all of the sudden becomes super playoff overlord

The Giants drove Bumgarner into the ground and he had all of six playoff starts last year. You have Price and Stroman each going on two days rest at one point...

Realistically though the matchups will determine a ton.

Mark Buehrle starting road playoff games in Houston or Kansas City? Sure. In Texas? Ehhhhh. In New York? Heeeelllllllll no

I'm with you. I'm as hopeful as anyone that Stroman comes back and pitches how we expect.. But as of now, I'm going Price, Dickey, Estrada, Buehrle. Beyond Price, we've got the other 3 who are all pretty close. Stroman is the X factor.

Some of these scenarios with the rest (or lack thereof) are crazy. The only game last playoff that Bumgarner pitched on three days rest was when he came in relief in game 7 of the world series.

It pretty simply will be four man rotation, likely consisting of the three veterans and Stroman, with Marco likely functioning as a short leash long man/spot starter.

While I think that's the most likely scenario provided Stroman comes back strong, don't you think Estrada has at least earned consideration to beat someone out, and has another month to continue the audition? Guys a 3.1 era and flirted with two no hitters this year. He may be at his absolute peak right now, we should ride it.

Whoever looks best in their last 2-3 maybe 4 starts should get the call.

Exactly

You can plan out everything you want and then bang some guy gets rocked in his first start and everyone will start shouting for someone else

The one plus of Estrada in the bullpen/long reliever is he knows what the deal is. Would you really trust Buehrle to give you anything out of the bullpen when he's never pitched there in his career? If he's not in the rotation I don't even include him on the rooster.
