Yeah.. Caufield scored two goals but even his timing has been off on a few looks.. but Slaf and Suzuki have been pretty miserable out there most shifts.

We know what they can do, but the way the pre-season went for that line has set us in a position where they aren't executing very well.

The whole top 6 looks like they've never played together before.

Pretty meaningless with a 2 game sample size.. especially considering Slaf played with that line for 5 periods in which they were in a tight game or leading and defending the lead, with the Anderson switch happening at a time where the Bruins were defending a multi goal lead and let the Habs take more shots, which would explain why the shot share went up with Anderson.

The line as a whole was not very good for two games.. Anderson going on the line and having a better CF% is a game/score effect with such limited data.

The poster haven't bothered to check on Slaf's stats without CC/Suzuki. Slaf did better than 42.86 CF% with his new linemates.

A few days ago, he mentioned to the media that he was thinking too much on the ice. Should be resolved in a few games. Already looked better this game and carried the puck more often.

Opposite of the beginning of last year where he played well and couldn't get points.. now he's not playing so well but is getting points, next step is playing well and getting more points.

His soft board play and pinches were bad on two goals, sadly. He's gotta get physical on the wall and seal things off there

Slaf has the most hits on the team (13, after him there is 3 players with 9 each) and 2nd in hits/60 minutes. He's not really playing small.

His problem is mostly that he doesn't move his feet, he gets the puck and lose it easily because he's not moving. He started to move them more last game.

I think he plays like he has not trained enough this summer and is still in pre-season because of that. He's not skating when he should and he's not scanning the ice as much as he should. Yesterday in what looked like a potential 3 on 2 he dumped the puck instead of looking to his left where Caufield was alone.

Him getting points while not playing well is positive though as that's one of the attribute of all elite players being able to be productive while not playing well. Elite players find a way to get their goals and points no matter what and the first line is passing that test atm.

Yes. That would have been a very dangerous scoring opportunity and should have been an easy read to make the right play.

… and a couple of other, less obvious, misreads after that one.

No cause the sample size (less than 4 min) is way too small. Anderson on the top line has been tried time and time again and has been a failure every single time. It has to die.

Also Suzuki and Caufield wo Josh Anderson != with Slafkovski. Suzuki has a truck load of small TOI line combinations that probably result from line changes. Corsi will be obviously bad in those 0:01 to 0:25 line combinations. Lot of them have a corsi of 0 .... Season is way too young to look at that.

Suzuki-Caufield-Heineman played 6 seconds together for a corsi for of 0. Suzuki-Caufield-Dvorak plyed 9 seconds together for a corsi for of 0. Almost certain the result of line changes where we dumped the puck. Suzuki-Caufield-Anderson player 3:57 together probably when Slaf left the ice after a hit?

He's not where he needs to be, but I think he's improved with each game. Suzuki is waking up as well, and Caufield has been the best of the three. It seems they're on the brink of getting into form at the same time.
