Oh man. If you can sign him long term asap, you do it.
6 millions/year. Go
8.5 millions/year after this one.
It gonna be a lot of pressure for a 20 years old guy… im maybe wrong, I just don’t want to be the next Ottawa or Buffalo team. Personnally If Im Kent Hugues, I sign him long term after next season. And this is perfect if Slaf score 90 pts. I will pay him

Gamble on him thriving on the pressure like he already seems to be doing.

With our garbage contracts it’s important to have as much room as possible.

Well worth the gamble imo

Here
Yep

Lets go with the Suzuki/Caufield extension out of his ELC.

Agree.
We have another year and a half bro, you’re early in trading terms

It’s early for that guys, I can pay him what he deserves when it’s clear his tear is the norm, it’s ok to wait. For both sides too I guess

Our 1st overall pick is showing a lot of great things...why shouldn't it be that way?

Why is that wrong?

Seems a lot more weird to me to see a bunch of grown men/women fist pumping and air-humping when he's not playing well.

That's the real problem.
Why are grown men/ women fist pumping and air-humping in the first place? Were substances involved?

Can’t we all just enjoy a good thing for what it is? Who cares how he might have fared in other leagues — it probably irks some people that the Habs got it right in having Slaf learn at the NHL level just as much as they had it right in selecting him 1OA (it’s looking like a legit breakout).

We’ve had a ton of posts ridiculing the pick and how he’s been handled. The people behind those positions seem to be more interested in being right and in throwing shade at those who are enjoying the moment.

Classic HF playbook move.

Load him up with bonuses - seems to me to be the type of guy to rise to a challenge!

If I'm Slaf, I don't sign a single thing until the end of next season. He obviously isn't gonna KK the Habs so it's nothing to worry about. But he's probably betting on himself to do enough in an alleviated future cap to deserve 8 mil per year

How can you be so sure?

Because unlike KK, the coaching staff and organization completely believe in him. They don't stretch him, don't put him on the fourth line, not give him PP time. The Habs have been very generous to Slaf as a 19 year old. The KK situation was unfortunate but it was kinda predictable in hindsight

I don't disagree, and it would be extremely unlikely, as he seems very happy here.

But also, these h____ ain't loyal.

If you imply he may sign an offer sheet.

One thing obvious is that ANY offer sheet to Slafkovsky would be matched.

Its obvious.

True and you're right, anything could happen I guess. But the situations are so different that I can't in good faith draw comparisons to them. Worst case scenario is slaf sign an offer sheet to force the Habs to match like Weber

Would not take any players from the 2020 draft and the 2021 draft ahead of Slafkovsky.

I will concede Stutzle but that's it. He is the real deal. The talks that he was a weak 1st overall were shitty as f***.

He is the real f***ing deal.
