Rest easy Plantman

Pavement is pretty far out of my wheelhouse but I'll pour one out for another stickman lost.

I was listening to a podcast just yesterday where they were attempting to prove that drummers are 'lost' at a higher rate than any other member of a band, from death both natural and chemical (Peart, Bonzo, Moon), injury (Collins), and in some rare cases, happy retirement (Bruford).

I mean, that was a bit in Spinal Tap which was made almost 40 years ago

Bill just performed at the John Wetton Tribute show:

Those guys are old.

I'm either listening to older music or repeat of a playlist that had new music from February.

Spotify's Ai bloke sucks. Like it's supposed to figure out your algorithm and help find music based on your listening habits, kind of like the Discover Weekly but it talks to you, yet it blows.

I think it was Google Music that actually did a good job of finding music for you based on your listening habits but then Google f***ed that entire app up into the worst music app available.

That Spotify AI is f***ing annoying. Like shut up and play the music. If it was giving me bios or interesting facts or a description of the music....ya know....like a real DJ...it would be more interesting, but all it is is a bunch of filler saying "You played this so here's this".

"Hey man let me take back to the summer of 2014 when..."

*skip*

I sometimes just drive in silence, avoiding my SiriusFM and Spotify.

Went to Detroit over the weekend to catch the Beck & Pheonix tour. I had known Phoenix only from their Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix album ... damn, they are a really fun band live. Beck, well, his shows are always a party. So, yeah, it was a really fun night. (Also: shoutout to the collection at Detroit Institute of Art. Its Diego Rivera gallery is phenomenal.)

Very cool tiered stage design and neat visuals. If you're considering a drive to Philly, MSG or Maryland this Fri-Sun for the last of their US dates, I highly recommend it.

Anyone else catch the Peter Gabriel show at the arena last night? Have to admire the cojones of a guy with a catalog that stretches back 50+ years choosing to include 8 tracks from an unreleased album in a 22-song setlist. Dude's certainly not coasting on his laurels.

His decision this year to release mixes of a new song each lunar cycle might somewhat mitigate the risk of alienating the crowd (at least those fans who have bothered to seek them out) with so much new material. But since he hasn't been here since 1993, I'm sure some fans would have preferred a setlist heavy on his best-known work. (Especially if they've never seen him live.) Still, I've been digging the new stuff.

Anyway, great band & great visuals. And the old man can still hit the high notes. Here's one of the mixes of the new album's title track

My wife and her sister went. They were very pleased. She hasn't played me a video of it yet I asked her to take for me. She never told me who they were seeing until after they got tickets, but I understand the wanting to do sister like things.
