Definitely more.
Like way, way, way, way, way, more, and then a little bit more after that.
I'd be shocked if you don't take Hughes.
Imagine Hughes/Hischier down the middle.

Zibanejad showed he can be a ppg player for the Rangers. We're looking to go one step beyond with Hughes or Kakko. The thing is that EP is already a PPG player (or thereabouts). Pick #10 on top of it is what makes me say yes to the trade.
That is a serious offer, but that is the opener to even get Gorton's attention. If they want to make it an offer that Gorton can't refuse, then there still needs to be more. The 2020 1st is a starter. Then what else are you going to add?Pettersson and the 10th... that is a serious offer.
Like I said earlier, for the 1st or 2nd overall picks, you'd have to look at the offer afterwards and say "That is way too much." Way too much is the only way those picks get moved. That is a serious offer, but that is the opener to even get Gorton's attention. Yup. I've been saying it all along, these boards have been built on evaluations made over the past couple years. Hughes obviously has some other ties to the Devils at well. It's 99% Hughes to the Devils. I say 99% because there's always that outside chance something crazy happens, or maybe NJ for some reason had Kakko ahead of Hughes for awhile now. Either way, what has gone down in the WC is totally irrelevant to who the Debbies pick.Yep. Devils are fools if they don't take him. I am fine being in this seat. Either the Devils make a hugely risky selection in taking Kakko over Hughes or we get the 2nd best prospect (by a MASSIVE) margin in the draft with an outside shot of being as good as Hughes.
We can't lose, here. The Devils have all the pressure on them and I can't imagine they somehow fold and take Kakko.
The Devils only problem for this draft, really, is a potential small PR issue if they don't do what everyone expects then to do.Yep. Devils are fools if they don't take him. An outside shot? He has just as good of a shot to be as good, or better than Hughes. Nobody has a crystal ball and the way 17/18 year old Kakko has played this season proves the sky is almost the limit for him as he continues to get better.Yep. Hischier kind of sucks away from Hall
Nico scored 24 points in 38 games after Hall went down. That's a pro-rated 52 point season, which I wouldn't say "sucks" for a 20 year old. Nothing amazing, but certainly not "sucks", especially given the AHL fodder the Devils were icing the last 12 or 15 or so games.
His underlying numbers away from Hall are horrendous.
Wouldn't that be expected though? A 20-year old center plays worse when he's not with his all star winger...
Let's not get out of hand here. Hughes projects to be a better player. Which is not to say that Kakko cannot a franchise cornerstone for the Rangers. He can. But let's not cut Hughes down to glorify Kakko. An outside shot? He has just as good of a shot to be as good, or better than Hughes. Hughes has been good in this game. Zadorov took him out hard and Hughes came back strong on the next shift setting up the Hanifan goal.
I think some people just undervaluing Kappo at this point. Hughes may have a bit higher potential, but to say there is "an outside chance" Kappo could reach whatever Hughes does is underselling Kappo a bit. Kappo's development skyrocketed this season to put him almost neck and neck. And frankly, IMO the likelihood of Kappo reaching his top potential is higher than I see Hughes hitting his.Let's not get out of hand here. Hughes projects to be a better player. Absolutely. But lets not forget Kakko isn't done either. He's a stick at 180pounds at 6'2. Give him a couple years, he could be 6'3 at 215-220 and an absolute bull on the ice.If Hughes had an NHL frame, he would be just as impressive as Kakko has been. The kid is a stick. Give him a season or two with an NHL training regiment and the results could be downright scary.
Kakko has been playing against men for a full season. He had to learn how to adapt. Hughes is playing against some of the worlds best talent for the first time. I think he will be forgiven that he didn't light it up in his first few games.Absolutely. But lets not forget Kakko isn't done either. He's a stick at 180pounds at 6'2.
