When the question is, “Whom would you rather get. Not whom do you think the Rangers get.

And yet everyone now thinks Kakko is superior. Everyone would rather him? Okay.
I understand the question, most people aren’t going to say they’d rather get the guy they’re not going to get literately just hours after they find out they’re going to get the other guy.

If you’ve been keeping up with these threads, you’d see that like 90% of the people are saying Hughes is most likely going to be the better player long term, but Kakko will probably make an impact quicker

Admittedly, I have not. I’m just utterly grateful that the Rangers are picking number 2. I’ll gladly take Hughes or Kakko.

To be fair, a very similar thing happened in 2017.

The majority of the Flyers board wanted Nico, and the majority of the Devils board wanted Nolan.

About 28 seconds after the Devils drafted Nico, the majority of the Devils board wanted Nico, and the majority of the Flyers board wanted Nolan = LULZ.

Dont know why you say that, I've never seen his shot accuracy questioned in various scouting reports.

Posting a highlight of him doing EXACTLY WHAT MANY OF US HAVE SAID (using his hands to get in tight) does not make your point for you.

Hes shooting like 9.3% on the season. If his shot was so good and accurate, that would not be the case.

He has many other strengths that will play well at the next level and are why he is ranked #1, but you really need to try to stop convincing yourself that Hughes has a good shot. He doesn't.

I gotta be honest...I hate Laine. I've hated him for a long time. Except for his shot I'm not even sure I'd even consider him a 3rd liner. I basically never notice him if he's not rifling shots top corner.

Yes he has a once in a generation type of a shot ...yes scoring goals is hugely important...but I still hate Laine. ... Most overrated player in the NHL today.
Replacement level player when he's not scoring goals.

Ryan Spooner on crack.

Even Hughes knows he’s got to learn to shoot the puck. Said it himself on the broadcast. His brother has the same issue. He fired a million pucks this year in college and during the WJC even the kazhastan goalie was laughing at him.

Both brothers need to work on their shot. But calling it a laser beam is ridiculous when it’s probably both their biggest weaknesses

i hate how this one highlight is something that keeps getting posted. a highlight of a play that will probably never happen again.

Rangers coach David Quinn excited for the opportunity to add...

Quinn said he knows for a fact that some teams rate Kakko above Hughes — though Quinn absolutely is not saying the Rangers will take either, only because it makes zero sense for any NHL GM or employee to make such an admission before the walk up to the stage at the draft June 21 in Vancouver. You hide your cards, even when it’s obvious what you’re holding.

I disagree; THIS is an other-worldly hands goal, not the one I posted, which came from 12 or 15 feet out.

You can't use highlights for accuracy. One person can have 1% accuracy on bullseye, another 50%, yet when you post the clip where both hit, you can't see any difference. My analysis of Hughes's shot is that the release is predictable and the velocity is poor. Is it especially accurate? I don't think so. Stats agree. When scoring at that range, the shot barely even matters. He can elevate it, indeed. So can preteens.

In reality, it's noticeably worse than McDavid's shot was pre-draft, which was a 3/5 for Button, I believe.

Quinn is in a great position as GM here 'cause it's going to be an absolute no-brainer as to who to select once the Devils make their selection.

Nobody is claiming Hughes is going to be as good as Connor McDavid. Hughes' skating is said to be the only player since McDavid to be as good, but the rest of CM's game is better than Hughes. That said, you mentioned Button, and Button is another analyst who claims Hughes is the obvious #1 pick.

Hughes remains the best player available this year, combining elite offensive skill and imagination with his will to compete every time he comes over the boards. He’s been slowed by a couple of minor injuries this season, but still has put up monster numbers (35 goals, 89 assists in 61 games). That sustained excellence keeps him ahead of TPS Turku right wing Kaapo Kakko (No. 2) and Russian right wing Vasili Podkolzin (No. 3).

The only drama in this draft is whether Chicago has the ballz to take Podkolzin with the #3 slot, given he is Russian. But as for who goes #1 & #2, there is no mystery.

I prefer Kakko as a player and would have argued in his favor prior to the lottery results.

I’ve been wondering for a while why this “gap” exists between the two.

Can’t wait til we pick Kakko and he ends up better than lil Jackie.

The idea of Kakko being better than Hughes was a thing long before the lottery. It's not as far fetched as you might think it is.

Imagine the HF drama after his 4th line debut in a home opener in MSG, lol. :DD

No you dont @KooKooForKakko we pretend that we like Hughes so Devils is quite happy with Hughes and feel good about it. And we are okey with kakko since we have our #2 and we can`t miss with that pick.. Can we? And by the hockey gods Kakko is a wonderkid just like Hughes, G. Clarke, so don`t dwell too much on Alex Turcotte, Byrame, or Pod. ;)

Personally I believe that Alex will be another elite center - I looked at his stats and scout videos and all the tools is there - so deep this 2019 draft so I`m 100% certain that Hawks will draft him to replace Patrick Kane since he dont get any younger! Alex Turcotte is a special player so I support @Ola opinion after the spot on team evaluation of CBJ in this year playoffs. :)
