People will hate this, but Nash-esque as well. When Ricks motor was going he was a menace along the boards and played an outstanding two way game.

Is Kakko widely viewed as a better, equal, or lesser prospect than Svechnikov?

82 games 37 pts season 20 goals + 17 assist and no playoffs points so far in his first playoffs vs Caps playing right now - I can only write stats, because I`ve not seen a lot of Canes this season. But I`m watching them against the caps right now.

Kakko & Hughes are world class players - so short answer no one can answer it until Kakko play his first NHL season already next training camp in October. One thing is skills, but the player need show it and get the chance to develop as well.
I`m watching #37 Andrei Svechnikov right now so I will mainly look at him in this playoffs game.

Canes using #37 on their second PP unit at the moment - not sure why.

*Andrei had a good move there so he is very skilled almost goal! :)

Well with that said, I also wouldn’t make a full determination on Svech after his rookie year. I was asking moreso in terms of their projections- I.e. if the two draft were combined is is fair to say the draft order would be Dahlin-Hughes-Kakko-Svech?

That’s probably fair, I think Kakko is better than Svechnikov, but that’s not taking anything away from Svechnikov, that kid’s the real deal

I feel like if KK puts up Svech’s rookie numbers we’d be ok with it, no? Or maybe we want that from Kravtsov and 45-50 from Kk?
Svechnikov spent a pretty big chunk in the bottom 6. He definitely got better as the season went on, but his numbers kind of reflect his usage, and Kakko’s numbers will probably reflect if he gets time in the top 6/on the first powerplay unit. But I’d be happy if he put up what Svechnikov did this year

I think KK is a 20+ goal 20+ assist player right off the bat. I think he could break 30-30 next season honestly if given the ice time to do so (which Quinn seems very willing to do, unlike Brindy with Svech).

Also, I think Hughes/Kakko are closer to Dahlin than they are to Svechnikov. Not that either are as good as Dahlin, they aren’t, but they’re closer to that level than Svechnikov IMO. That’s not a knock on Svech though, he’s fantastic. I think he’ll be a high 30s/low 40s goal scorer in his prime. Just speaks to how good Kakko/Hughes are.

#37 read the play very well there at the wall their so he has high hockey IQ just like kakko. :)

Ehhh I don't know about that.

Dahlin just had a 44 point season on a train wreck team that scored about as much as the Rangers did. It's a travesty that he's in Buffalo, he deserves so much better.

If Kakko plays with Zibanejad. I can see 30+30 rookie season. Or is that too bold? I think he’ll get a ton of action on the PP, and Quinn seems ecstatic so I’m sure he’ll give him a good look on the top 6 early on.

Yeah i think Dahlin is unquestionably better than either. He’s f***ing unbelievable. He has potential to be in McDavid/Crosby tier. I do think Kakko/Hughes are a tier above Svechnikov, though.

I mean, Quinn could love him and still make him earn the minutes, it’s kind of up to Kakko to force the issue

Well the Rangers won’t be as good as the Canes this year and both will get different opportunities in different roles. Points shouldn’t even be looked at for rookies imo, they’re still developing and it’s not a good measuring tool for how good they’ll be later on.

But from Kakko I would expect 20 goals 25-30 assists and from Kravtsov 15 goals 25 assists. Kakko will likely be a 2 way PPG player for us and Kravtsov could be a 70 point guy

One thing I’ve seen mentioned about Kakko is his apparent “ridiculous/elite shot” Kakko’s shot is good, but it’s not amazing. Don’t expect him to put up 40+ goals in his prime. I’d probably expect low 30s in goals and around 50 assists. He really is more of a playmaker than a goal scorer despite his stat line. He was playing with a really good playmaker in Palve at TPS. I think if he transitioned to C he’d get some Selke talk later on too, sadly wingers don’t get love for their defensive game but Kakko’s is unreal. I’ve watched around 20+ Kakko games this season and he really is an unreal player that will definitely transition to the NA game well and will be a monster in the playoffs. He seems like a quiet kid but at the same time has a certain cockiness to him, in a really good way but at the same time he hustles hard. He has to work on his positioning, skating, and shot a bit more though. Like everyone has said, when he gets stronger I cannot wait to see the player he turns into

The young Canes get outmuscles by the Caps though including #37 Andrei is still not fully developed - only 19 years old in the 2nd period. And that`s why Rangers is not in hurry to reach playoffs going into 2020 season. Hopefully a low draft position in another year and get another quality top prospect is important. And I can only speculate, but I doubt Jeff going after Panarin with our current defense.

But this topic is all about #2 pick - I will cry like baby if I see Fast taking away important TOI minutes from Kakko, hehe. Because we all know that will never happen, right.. haha.

His shot is very good, its not unreal but hes got some heat on it.

The thing about him is that he's very versatile in his goal scoring. He's effective in the paint, wiring one from the circles and his clapper on the PP is a legitimate weapon (not elite, but certainly good enough.)

What I like most about him is that he can both dangle around you or basically go through you, this isn't a player who needs someone to create space for him, he makes his own.

I think it was Alex Nunn who tweeted it, but I look forward to watching him and Kravstov play keep away from the other team.

I actually hope Fast get a better season next year - I don`t mind him get top 9 sometimes. He is a good support player and always work 120% great work ethic one of our best hard working players.

I think I actually liked (favorited) that Alex Nunn tweet
Kakko definitely is versatile as shit in his scoring but even as a player he’s incredibly versatile. He can play any forward position and be good at it and he literally does not have a red flag to his game. He’s not perfect, but there’s nothing that stands out as a weakness. Sure his skating, shot, positioning can be considered weaknesses for him but none of them are something to even slightly worry about. This is what makes me have him ranked over Hughes (yes, before the lottery.) Hughes has some red flags to his game and I’ve stated this plenty of times. Not to knock Hughes though, obviously he will be incredible as well and may even score more points but he wont be close to Kakko’s all around game

They should probably trade Fast.

Maybe but my view about player development - TOI is important to work on their current skillset. Martin Ødegaard is on a loan spell with Vitesse, because he can`t sit the bench in Real Madrid at his age 20. It`s different in hockey I know, but I hope Kakko & Kratsov see mostly top 9 minutes based on their current high end talent level.
