Speculation: The search for a new Head Coach - Rumors and Speculation

I'm not sure BB is the answer, but the team would be more fun to watch. Guys would play a more offensive style game and I'm sure we could make the playoffs. We could do worse than 2-3 years of BB before we can him when all the best coaches might then want to come here.
If he doesn't want to coach full time (travel) at his age, BB might be a good consultant if we get a young coach (Carle). He definitely got more out of his teams in the regular season than probably any other coach we had.

Boudreau might take the job now that the guy who fired him is gone and he can enjoy the fun of getting a team to the playoffs without the expectations of a championship. I'm sure he misses the Mexican food in Anaheim and Vietnamese food in Westminster.
Gibson be like: you guys will like this coach he's fun and not boring.

Seeing reports that the Blackhawks are circling Carle. If Verbeek ends up being interested it would be difficult to compete with a big market original 6 team with rabid fans, opportunity to coach a superstar like Bedard, and likely their bigger budget. Its worrisome because it could be the difference of Cadbury picking the Caps and us ending with leftovers like Cronin.

Cronin isn’t inarticulate at all, but he has a severe lack of emotional intelligence required to coach at the NHL level.

The Lybuschkin and Silf comments combined with some of his ridiculous hardass/demeaning almost interviews make that clear
This is well said. It's like he wants to check off the "I'm tough" box, so he acts like a hard ass blindly instead of assessing each situation individually and dealing with it appropriately. He clearly isnt capable of it. Must have sold PV a bill of goods in that interview.

I do think he’s a good salesman in some way. I guess from that perspective he could be “well
spoken”

I guess I just don't see the appeal of someone like Carle for this version of the Ducks. He will most likely be an excellent NHL coach at some point, but those things take time. Cronin mentioned many times about all the things he was unaware of, and he was an assistant coach in the NHL for many years. The Ducks don't have time to take that kind of risk at this moment.

IMO, they need to find someone with experience working at the NHL as a head coach. Woodcroft just seems to make so much sense.

I don’t have any interest in BB at all. My list is below at this point, some of the guys on the list might not even be available but just a list for fun.

Yes please:
DeBoer
Sullivan
Woodcroft

Maybe:
Carle
Gallant

Hell no:
Boudreau
Quennville
Torterella
Laviolette
Brunette

Not sure DeBoer will be available but he’s one of the more successful coaches ever. I would throw a bag at him to get him here and take my chances personally

Honestly shocked people want Sullivan. He is notorious for overplaying vets instead of younger guys. It is Cronin 2.0.

And why are people talking about DeBoer. Did I miss something like he is out in Dallas if they lose this year?

Love BB, but I'm hoping we are thinking a little more long term then a 70 year old if I'm honest. Ideally this coach is one that we build with for the next 5+ seasons.
Average NHL coaching tenure is 2.3 years. Worrying about a coach 5+ years out seems like a pipedream. Even Carlyle, who won a cup here, only lasted 6 years.

I think viewing it as a 3 year job is the best way to look at it. Bruce could easily get the Ducks to that contending window in 3 years.

Calling Sullivan Cronin 2.0 is kinda crazy. Most coaches overplay their veterans but the difference between Sullivan and Cronin is immense in terms of having the respect of the locker room and on ice systems/structure. Not even remotely Cronin 2.0

And I prefaced in my post that DeBoer probably won’t be available. I’m rooting for the Stars to get swept however and maybe they make a dumb decision to move on.

The Bruce obsession is also just weird and reeks of some form of nostalgia for the success he had with the team 12 years ago. He’s 71 and has stated he doesn’t want to coach anymore.

It would be a complete clown move to rehire Bruce after doing the same thing with RC.

Anyway, woodcroft is probably the best and most realistic option it would appear

Wanting to bring back a 70 year old coach and expecting success also seems like quite the pipedream. There's been what....one 70+ year old coach in the NHL in the last 20 years? There is also every chance BB is washed as a coach now given how his previous two teams have improved immediately after he left, can't imagine further time out of the game helps that either.

I'd much rather target a coach that has the potential to be here 5+ seasons as the team continues to improve, then target a short term solution who we'd be lucky to get two let alone three seasons out of.

Also, are we just ignoring that Boudreau didn’t make playoffs his last 4 seasons of coaching (2 with Minny and 2 with VAN)? Maybe the game passed him by?
And even without factoring in his recent stints in the NHL, it's completely unrealistic to expect to get three seasons out of a 70 year old at the NHL level. We'd literally be back in the exact same situation within two years in the best case scenario, with the most likely scenario being the end of next season. It makes zero sense to do that.

If BB had never coached here, I'd be willing to bet not a single person on HFDucks would even entertain the thought of him being the coach of the Ducks in 2025.

Cronin 2.0 was probably not fair. He obviously is a much much better coach then Cronin and obviously has the ability. But stylistically he seems like he would be another guy that would not help with the kids developing.

I want Bruce but I understand the things that go against it, especially him saying he is done. I'm not banking on it or anything.
Woodcroft is the guy I want 100%.

Also wondering what the most likely vacancies will be this offseason. Right now there's only two, and if I were a coach I'd take the job in Anaheim over the Rangers one. But will any more appealing ones than ours pop up?

Chicago also. They have an interim guy atm.

No for me on some of these oldheads. Some due to more obvious reasons.

Tortorella
BB
Q
Babcock

Laviolette is getting to that status as well though I would rather him than the above.

Sullivan I don't think will even be available. Woodcroft remains at the top of my shortlist of candidates. Also because I don't think Verbeek will want to go the route of a first time NHL coach again so that would remove Carle.

So true, nobody would even think of him.

I actually wanted BB after Eakins but i doubt he’s looking to coach anymore.
