Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

He is still at Texas for the U18 WJC.

And probably will be also for the Griffins series.

DAL-COL series had also 11 UFAs playing against each other.

Lot's of hockey happening there, to scout for.
Very legit and valid excuses to not find one single hour of free time for two weeks.

He is waiting for that new webcam and mic to go through customs

Brand spanking new 720p webcam, that should be a huge upgrade from the potatocam with the integrated mic

The last few press conferences were around two weeks from the end of the season. I would think with that being the case, the PC is probably later this week.

Last season it was 3 days after the end of the season.
Year before that it was 1 day after.
Year before that it was 3 days after.
Year before that it was 11 days after - he began by apologizing for the delay (also had just signed Blashill to an extension which might have been what he was waiting on finalizing).

Currently on 11 days after.

The most likely outcome: extended impatience for the press conference, followed immediately by disappointment at the lack of content provided by the press conference.

I'll be very surprised if it ends up being anything more than, "We had some ups and downs but some of our young players got some key experience. We will continue being patient with the process." Yawn.

Maybe DLs press conference ruffled more feathers than we think

And he waits two weeks to say that because..?

I dunno, after the U18 WJC there's WHC, where the braintrust usually all go... probably will meet with Lidström, Kronwall, Zetterberg etc. because the WHC is in Sweden.

I’d rather have Yzerman doing those things than having a post season press conference. He probably won’t reveal much and mostly reiterate what his plan is, which is only gonna piss off the fans who are already mad at him.

I'm sure he will have a tactful statement prepared by the public relations staff.

The reality? Because the scouting trips he's currently doing are a lot more important to him than a nothing burger of a press conference. Yzerman doesn't strike me as a guy who enjoys dealing with the media - he'd probably skip it altogether if he could.

Or maybe Larkin's comments matter and he's pissed about it?

Let's keep pretending everything is ok right up until he is traded at the draft though.

Yeah, since we have nothing else to go on, I'll reiterate my theory. McLellan meets with Yzerman to discuss his views on all of the players in advance of their locker clean out meeting. McLellan tells Larkin something he doesn't like, so Larkin goes out and has his pity party press conference. The theory that because he has a NTC makes it OK for him show s**tty leadership is truly a bizarre take. There was literally no reason to be a buyer at the trade deadline. It's embarrassing.

Radio silence from Yzerman while he figures out how he wants to deal with Larkin. I'm guessing he's had meetings with Larkin and his agent on next steps. Guys who have had similar attitudes have been shipped out, even when it has been expensive to do so.

Yzerman "Cancel my press conference, that son of a bitch Larkin is gonna pay!"

I think it's funny that we talk about all the smoke around other teams as if it's definitely legit (Vancouver w Pettersson (which was legit), Marner leaving, etc) but pretend like all our drama is totally made up.

I would not be even a little surprised if Yzerman trades Larkin. It doesn't even have to be that he's upset - maybe he realizes that Larkin really wants to win now and that doesn't fit the timeline he's created in his head, and so perhaps he is speaking with Larkin about possible next steps. Going to CBJ to play with Werenski seems like a reasonable option given that they are closer to contending than us.

I'm breaking this first sentence apart because it's the nature of these forums to dissect every possible nugget of information...

...whether there's any substance behind it or not. Most news is blown out of proportion, whether it's Marner or Larkin. Could both players move? Yes. Would I be even a little surprised if both players finished their careers with their current teams? No.

Not saying this is the absolute Bible or anything, but I'd think if there was any serious hint of blowback from the organization, Bultman would be saying or hinting at something..and he was asked about it on the Winged Wheel pod last night and basically said he can see what Larkin is frustrated and it was very clear he did not think it was worthy of a lot of attention.

Marner has a contract that is expiring (and I'd still say its very likely he stays in Toronto). That's different than overanalyzing a comment in a press conference and then further spiraling because the GM hasn't commented on the comment.

Everyone was shocked by the Walman trade, Yzerman keeps everything close to the vest. It’s only later that we get some insight into why the move was made. I don’t for a minute think Yzerman shares anything with Bultman. So it’s probably just Max’s opinion, which is totally valid.

If your answer has 1% of truth I’d want him fired tomorrow.

You'd want to fire a GM who has hit one home run after another in the first round of the draft, just because he doesn't care about doing press conferences? I get flack for criticizing his awful last couple of trade deadlines - actual roster impacting decisions - and the hill you'd die on is talking to the press?

Or do you mean the possibility that he doesn't care about Larkin's comments as much as some of the people on these boards?

If only Yzerman had been as mad at Lalonde’s comments and performance sooner. Given the patience he showed that guy with the job he did, I’m sure he has patience for Larkin’s comments. Though I agree saying it in that venue wasn’t the right spot, and he needs to up his play in March.

That I can see. Larkin wanting to win now after getting a taste of top end play in the 4 Nations might be what he wants. Or he wants that in Detroit now.

This is probably true, but seeing how poor that trade ended being, I hope Yzerman doesn’t do that again.

Why shouldn’t he want that in Detroit shouldn’t everyone? Hello it’s been 9 freaking years that’s more than enough time to become a legit contender let alone accomplish a playoff appearance. I guess this organization has become a losing culture because we are mad that a guy is passionate about actually wanting to win.
