When he's ready to go. He probably wanted to stick around for family stability. At least for a time. I think the team would prefer him being dealt after the Burns retention ends.
How has he been lately on the ice ? Forgive me for not watching the Shark much in the past twelve months, lol.

He was fine last year though not at his best. He's worse this year but the talent around him is significantly worse. Going from Meier and Karlsson to the likes of Benning or Burroughs and Duclair is a steep drop for someone who always needed help to produce.

Understandable. He's a 3rd wheel on a line, IMO. He'd look great next to Cole and Suzuki.

At his peak he was an elite play driver himself but he's begun his age-based decline just in time for him to sign his big contract, I don't know how valuable he is as an asset playing under his current deal

Reading through the first couple pages of this thread, I'm noticing some people focusing on on the Sharks forward depth, and I feel as though they're putting the cart before the horse. In my opinion, the main issue here is the fact that they have no defenseman who are capable of moving the puck with any sort of efficiently. Really difficult for the forwards to generate offense when the defense is having a hard time getting out of their own zone.

He has been legitimately excellent. As you might imagine, the .910% doesn’t do his play justice. I believe he faces 51 shots one game. And it did not go to OT.
If Blackwood kept this up all season, and was playing for a good team with a legitimately good defense, he'd put up Hasek numbers.

He's not that good, and I suspect he'll have a rough patch and revert to a more normal level, but so far he has been awesome - the one bright spot on this team so far.

It did go to OT. He stopped the first 49 before Colorado tied it up in the last minute of the third.

I don’t think there’s a team in the League in a worse situation. They are in a deep rebuild, so you’d think they could look to the future but Grier has done a shit job of loading the cupboards. Getting fleeced by Dubas didn’t help either.

I respectfully dissagree. While our prospect-pool is far from the top, the outlook is much brighter since Grier took over and will be even better two years down the road.

The Sharks were highly competetive for 20+ years, you cant hang on to success in the cap era forever... They are paying the price for a lot of their sins in the latter stages of that 20-year window.

Definitely a bad situation, but Grier has completely revamped the prospects pool in a year and a half and we potentially have 3 firsts this upcoming draft. The one Dubas gave us currently has the best odds in the Eastern conference (although top-10 protected). I'll happily take the Pens unprotected first next year if that's the case too.

Agreed. We're slowly starting to see TB stumbling and in a couple of years they'll be an ugly situation. Same with Vegas. It's just the way it is.

Ty Emberson, picked up off waivers, is arguably our best all-around defenseman right now.

Suddenly the below makes complete sense

“After nine games, they have 1 shoot-out loss to show for the season. They have 9 goals, total, in nine games. They've allowed 26 goals against, putting them almost at -3 per game (or -240 for a full season).

Sharks are obviously rebuilding and have a high amount in various forms of dead cap space, plus a couple of players who are almost dead cap space like Vlasic.

However, almost all of this comes off the books when McDavid, and Eichel are eligible for UFA.

So I expect the Sharks to have quality draft picks and rebuild, then sign one of those.
You just expect them to sign McDavid or Eichel huh? Just like that.

I think the Flames are in a worse position right now. At least the Sharks have a decent prospect pool and 2 firsts and 2 seconds in the 2024 draft.
