The San Jose Sharks are horror-bad

Kind of a bummer to see David Quinn's team struggle so much. I liked him when he was the Rangers' head coach and thought he would do well with some more experience and a change of scenery.

Cut to the present day, and it looks like the Sharks are consistently showing up to games unready. Poor starts was a common theme for the Rangers during his tenure too.

Are his days as an NHL HC numbered?

I do think Quinn is pretty useless. He's probably only in San Jose until the rebuild ends.

It's clear his players neither respect nor fear him.

Good job Grier hiring Quinn to replace the equally terrible Bob Boughner when there were so many better options available and ready for hire.

The San Jose Sharks are an intentionally terrible hockey team

They were a mediocre team and then they traded away most of their best players
They finished last in wins last year, I don't think that's what I would call mediocre

Yes they're tanking, but they were losing by accident anyway, now they're just embracing the reality of their situation and making moves looking to the future

20 game check in

3 wins (12 win pace)

8 points (32 point pace)

-56 goal differential (-54 subtracting shootout credit goals)

-252 shot differential

1 multi goal win

1 game with a positive shot differential

Technically, we're on a 32.8 point pace.

My personal prediction at the moment is 35, with no other team below 50.

I don't think they are tanking, but started off the season that bad. They should improve some but still hang in the bottom portion of the league.

Now tanking as an art form goes to Chicago. That's a higher revenue club with nearly $13M in free cap space, leading the league in that department. Even the perennial low revenue club, AZ, has only 25% of that in free cap space.
