Non rising cap screwed the sharks in particular. As did the shocking near instant decline of Vlasic from leagues best shutdown to candidate for worst contact in the league. Similar shocking near instant decline of Martin Jones, who cost a 1st and now just eats cap. Paying another first to let pavelski go for Kane. EK65 Norris season ruining the tank in a good draft year. Hertl getting an 8 year deal even though it doesn't fit our window at all. Carrying 2.7M of burns and getting peanuts back.

DW was a good GM but the decisions made late in his tenure are leading to this now.

Does the NHL have a walkover rule?... Like if for some reason if a team doesn't show up or can't field a minimal roster a 6-0 result (or something like that) gets assigned to the game. If so, at this point the Sharks should just hang a "Out for Lunch" sign on the front door and take the rest of the year off.

Perhaps it's the prospect of the current season being historically bad creating recency bias, but it feels like the Sharks are in danger of being one of those organizations that fall into the abyss and go yeeears without even sorta challenging for playoff spot.

I thought it was 3-0, or maybe that’s just soccer?

The crazy part is they could wind up sucking this bad only to lose the draft lottery like Columbus and Detroit have.
Not a big deal this year...

Celebrini is a step above everybody else, but there are only 25% chance of winning for the worst team, and it is guaranteed to pick top 3.

Eiserman, Demidov, Levshunov, Silayev, Lindstrom all are in a similar tier IMO. All excellent prospects with their strenghts and flaws.

Guy decided to reward his players with contracts and NMCs that didn’t make sense and the team is paying the price. At least EK65’s Norris season made it so you could trade him.

No NHL team should be THIS bad. And on paper, I don't think the Sharks should be either. There have been more horrific rosters in the league in past years. But if players have checked out or coaching is that bad or whatever is going on... I have no idea, I am not watching their games... you can't let that happen. Even while tanking for Celebrini. The lottery odds aren't that great even if you finish last. You still have to maintain at least a little bit of composure and self-respect along the way. :dunno:

On paper our defense is the worst iced that I can ever remember since watching hockey. Literally not a single player that would be on anything higher than the 3rd pairing on any other team, and several that probably should not even be in the NHL at all.
Just proves how necessary puck moving defensemen are to gain possession in the d-zone and transition to offence. Karlsson was IT last year, now they have no one who can generate plays from the backend or transition to offence to help out their forwards.

And Karlsson is super underrated and we see the result. When you're all offence the puck isn't in your own zone.

Assembling this roster, the only justice is if they pick 3rd overall.

The NHL grants you your wish.

Oh that's been guaranteed for years as it is. I don't expect to sniff the playoffs until 2028, maybe 2027 if everything goes right, and quite easily 2029.

I for one will have respect for Mike Grier no matter how they play after he swatted down Czech officials trying to ban Russian players entrance into their country

Not surprised if comes out Zacha & Pastrnak in their couple of days off in SJ hooked up with buddy Tomas Hertl and he’s looking to get out of there

Adding Hertl basically makes the Bruins 120 points

Hope it happens - Hertl deserves joy & happiness - not 10-1 losses

Just saw the last result.
god damn this is worse than the Golden seals. This is oakland seals bad.

Wait no. i looked it up. They did not loose like this back then.
Ok yes the lost in 71 against the canucks 5:11 and against the rangers with 1:12.
But that were the golden seals.

So yes this is golden seals bad.

This team would be bad in the 70s. The freaking 70s.

Wonder if the league would step in in some way if this continues. A non competitive team getting bare bottomed spanked every night can’t be good for the league. Not sure what the league could do though

Thank god they didn’t get Bedard. They strangely seem to think they still have a shot at him though.

The Seals actually had some very decent results early on, repeatedly holding their own against the Habs and the Bruins powerhouse teams among others.

@Albatros exactly.
At this point this team and its results look worse than Back then.
And i don't feel Like shitting on them. I feel sad for their Fans. Because you can be Bad and Tank. But atleast try to make it Close. Give it your best shot. But the Team Looks spent and defeated.
Moral must be so Low that the mariana trench's depth is comparable.

They're already in year 5 of not coming close to challenging for a playoff spot, the problem is the first 3.5 of those years were by accident

It's only natural the Sharks are as bad as they currently are, they spent over a decade mortgaging the future making win now moves and it caught up with them, the real mistakes came at the end of the competitive window when they doubled down on long term deals to aging players instead of reloading for the future, this made it so they not only lacked the picks and prospects needed to rebuild in earnest but they were also tied to boat anchor contracts that kept them from trading their veterans for those future assets at any decent value

Ironically, the one guy they cut bait with because he was "too old" was Joe Pavelski, and he's still going strong 5 years later, they decided it was smarter to invest in Evander Kane rather than keep their captain, huge mistake

The last 4 years of Doug Wilson desperately flailing to keep the ship afloat set the franchise back a decade, his moves from the summer of 2019 through his firing essentially undid all the hard work he put into building a sustainably competitive franchise

If they had just managed to win 2 more games in 2016 this would all have been seen as worth it, but they didn't, so now it's just a sad tale of what not to do when your aging core is falling apart
