Well with the likely Zucker concussion we may see Granlund getting called up before he can even play a game down in Houston. I'm guessing they call up Larsson instead though.

Or, you know, Bouchard

1. Granlund joins NHL. Most promising finnish prospect since? ready to make an impact.

2. Yeo gives him 2nd line c place between friggin' Cullen and Setogutchi.... Things doesn't go well because those wingers can't cycle the puck. They can't even get that puck to opponents end and they can't give 2 straight passes before losing the puck.

3. Yeo demotes Granlund 4th line - What the hell???

4. Yeo gives Granlund his dream job at this point - HEALTHY FRIGGIN' SCRATCH are you kidding me???

5. Granlund is ready for next game: Yeo gives him a chance yeah!! - oh '' you are playing tonight in 4th line with Z.Konopka and some other frozen woodhand Gz Mikael! :))) '' - Granlund is one of the best players for Wild's team in that game in 4th line.

6. Prize - Healthy scratch

7. --> AHL

God i'm pissed off! I hope some organization who can handle their prospects gets him ASAP. This can't continue, you are _ruining_ this kid!

Unfortunately most Wild fans and Finland natives are blinded by their support of the guy to admit that he just isn't good enough at this time. Hopefully a few years down the line he can contribute in the NHL.

qft. granlund will come around eventually.

Granlund should leave Wild if he ever wants to be a nhl player. I did not like at all when he joined the club, tried to accept it but I can't. They are ruining him.

How are the Wild ruining him? They finally did the right thing in sending him to Houston.

He was handed a top six center spot right out of the gate, a move that all these people who say we're ruining him supported at the time, (and you all would have been upset if we didn't give him that spot.) He clearly wasn't ready for it.

And I'm sorry, but a 20 year old rookie not playing top six minutes is not going to ruin him. He'll be fine.

It is hard i get it, but people just will need to accept it that MG is not even nearly ready for the NHL

Zucker isn't center. Wild won't put Granlund in wing.

Got to love Brodziak on the 1st PP.

Granlund needs to play top 6 or not. I am fine with the AHL. Yeo really does not know how to work a guy like Granlund though.

Maybe the Finns/SM-Liiga need to look inward instead of blaming the Wild. The fact is many players who were top scorers in the SM-Liiga in recent years have had virtually zero success in the NHL. Looking at guys like Lindgren, Immonen, Perrin, Pesonen. And now Justin Azevedo, a decent AHL scorer, is one of the leading scorers there.

Leino is the only one who has had some margin of success, but even that was limited to 1 regular season and 1 playoff.

there's a reason why the guys you mentioned were either drafted late or not at all; none of them were high-end NHL prospects. Granlund was an 8th overall pick and by far more talented than any of those guys. So I don't really see the logic. Also btw Perrin was a pretty decent NHLer for a time, I think it's to be expected that he is capable of scoring in the SM-liiga if he has played 300 games in the NHL

That said, there's no reason to sugarcoat it - Granlund has struggled and is getting playing time accordingly.

You're making it sound like Granlund is the victim here. The Wild are an NHL organization, they can't just put him in the 1st line "because it's best for his development". And besides getting some games in the A is probably good for him, it's not exactly ruining him.

He just need to play in ahl to improve his decision making on 5vs5 game. Looks like he don't know what to do with a puck because forecheck is much more harder in north america. He just doesn't have as much time as he did on the big ice and which is a thing he needs to adjust to. Despite putting up good numbers on the ahl earlier this year he wasn't as dominate as the numbers show. Most of the points he put up came on the powerplay or in multipoint games.

Pretty good post imo but small correction, MG was picked 9th ovr. Burmistrov was picked 8th.

MG needs to get stronger and faster to play in the NHL. He is still young... Some bodies are ready at 18, some early 20's. Hopefully he is the latter type.

I don't think Marty St Louis packs any more muscle than Granlund and Granlund is about the same size as Crosby. He just had the misfortune to become drafted by the team that ruins every prospect they ever had, except for Gabo and Koivu, and I feel Koivu could have become better if he wasn't forced to play like a 3rd line grinder.

e. Well Burns panned out too.

Ha. Not really, we just used to draft bad prospects.

OMG :D Holy overreaction. I've been a huge MG supporter since he was like 16 or something, but it's right there to be seen that he just isn't ready for NHL yet. He needs time to adjust to NA game and also add some muscle. He will make the NHL eventually, imo he's just too damn talented not to.

Not sure about the situation Wild are in with wingers/centers but i think MG would benefit from playing wing instead of centre like he did in HIFK when they won FEL championship and like he did when Finland won the world championships. But there was a post stating that they wont play him on the wing, why is that ?

How are the Wild at fault for ruining him?

He's simply not ready for the NHL, as the combination of slow and small is deadly in the NHL, and not in the good way.
He needs to improve his speed and at the same time learn how to gain an advantage on his opponents by outsmarting them, which takes time.
A good example of this is, at least as far as being slow and learning to outsmart goes, is the Sedins, although they have the advantage of playing together and seemingly being telepathic.

How is he not ready for the NHL? He sure seemed ready at the WC which is higher level to play against than your average NHL team.
He should've been playing wing from the get go but Yeo made the decision to force him to be a center.
A terrible coach and a lousy franchise.

He is not ready for the NHL because he is inconsistent and continually exposed in his own end. The kid got better as the year went on but the wild don't have time to wait for him to live up to his potential this year. Hopefully the AHL will help accelerate his learning process and give him confidence.

From what i saw in the couple of games at the start of the season was basically him struggling in NA rink. Less space, more speed, more physicality - it's only natural it takes some time. It's best for Minnesota and best for MG himself imo to make the adjustments in the AHL.

He was also knocked down constantly but from what i read, he already got better there as he got more games. Also too lazy to check it up, but i remember him struggling in the faceoff department as well as in the defensive side of the game. The latter two would basically disappear (FOs) or be slighter knock on his game if moved to wing.

Not even going to respond to your mindless bashing of the club, maybe you should accept that Granlund is not the only thing Minnesota has to worry about.

The problem Granlund had is one of timing. He took a while to adjust, and while he was coming around just fine his last couple games our other players took off leaving him without a spot. The Zucker-Cullen-Seto line has been fantastic, Need Brodziak in the lineup for his PK play so Mikko and Parise dont have to play 2 minutes there every game. Yeo wants Konopka in to get punched in the face. And they want to keep him at center. He needed to play, so he goes to the AHL.

He will be fine, and he will be back. No doubt about it.

I never said anything else, even tho my last post may point that i did. I was just answering the guy who wanted to know how he wasn't NHL ready based on what i saw (and thats a very small sample size i have - there's no doubt that people who watch Minnesota regularly knows better)

As i said, i watched only a couple of games from the start of the season to see how he's doing and imo the biggest thing was him not quite gotten used to the increase of speed and physicality while having less space vs. European game and timing obviously is a big factor there.

I have no doubt he will be a very good player for Minnesota for years to come.

Wasn't trying to counter you, more of just adding more information. Last line was more for the people whining.
