Hopefully HIFK gives him 1-2 weeks off. He will be so out of gas in the FEL playoffs and WHC...

I personally thought Granlund looked quite good out there. He made his line mates better and for the most part made good decisions with the puck.

The shootout mishap was unfortunate but at the same time you have to LOVE the fact the kid tried that high level move with the game on the line. He is 100% confident in his abilities and I'm sure 9 times out of 10 he pulls the move off.

Prospect board has definitely taken a downswing hockey knowledge wise. Way too many people focus on stats to determine if a player is good or not. I'm sure most of them don't really have a clue and just pretend they do lol.

Am i the only one who thinks Granlund was actually pretty fast, surprised me how fast he skated sometimes coast to coast from own zone to offensive zone.

You're not the only one. I found his skating to be pretty surprising. He has made great progress in that department for sure.

Any intelligent observer of the game would have realized that Mikael Granlund thinks the game on a whole another level than his linemates. Those guys killed so many plays.

Put Granlund in the NHL with real players and the guy will explode.

How about feeding Heatley (how still is excellent in finding the invisible space whereto receive pass and release a dangerous shot) in Minnesota next year?

He looked pretty good during the tournament as a whole, but gawd, that SO fail will stick... Talk about clutch! :sarcasm:

It became obvious that Granlund cannot dominate in small rink against top opponents. First, he is simply still too slow (compare e.g. to Kuznetsov), secondly, there's simply less space for passes.

How many games has he played in a smaller rink? Yeah, not enough for you to say that "it's obvious he's not going to dominate...".

I don't think it is even fair to expect him to dominate in small rink. He played quite well overall but couldn't step up in those big games.

This. I remember especially one instance against Slovakia when he skated coast to coast pretty damn FAST. I was wondering if it's his playmaking mindset that prevents him from doing that more often. It's difficult to look for plays when you're going full blast...

Yes, he has shown some bursts of speed but usually WITHOUT the puck. When he has the puck he hardly ever skates fast. But as he said there's still lots of work to do with skating. Another thing is that he looked just exhausted in the semifinal.

Well, they did have their quarter final match the night before, whereas Sweden had two days off before the semi.

If anything, it means he left everything on the ice, which is commendable.

This proves you really either hate granlund or didnt watch the game. There were plenty of times that he showed speed with the puck. He is not slow by any means, and how does a person lose speed with the puck? What does it weigh him down or something?

As tuozzi said it may be his playmaking mindset. Tbh I dunno. I've just got this impression. He doesn't hurry with the puck. Sometimes he looks almost fast, sometimes just slow. Maybe it's because of his stride.

In fairness, & im not saying its the case here, ALL sorts of players slow down with the puck

Mikael has been criticized for his skating and speed, how much has he improved on those sectors?

just improved. go figure.

on a more serious note, by gaining strength. not that much by improving his stride.A couple of years ago skating was his clear weakness being one of the worst skaters in his team. Now he is average skater.

They have decided to give him a rest because he's been under heavy duty lately. He also has nothing to prove at this point, he's most certainly a lock for the WC-team.
