Marty on Sabres Live saying drafted prospects have more value than a first round pick was so profoundly dumb that it made my jaw drop. Excluding very rare exceptions a first will always have more value because the team gets to pick who they want. Picks are generally like cars in that they lose value once they leave the lot.
I still disagree with this sentiment. Most GMs are trying to win now, they don't care about making the draft pick themselves and waiting 3-5 years for the player to develop. In all likelihood they won't still be the GM 3-5 years from now. They'd much rather acquire a prospect who has already done some developing, who they can plug into the lineup in the next 0-2 years and help them keep their job.

You're missing the point that Laughton is probably more of a throw in at this point especially with nothing retained. Sure you can do better than Laughton but it's going to cost you a lot more.

He's also at $3 million for 2 more years
Laughton had terrible stats last season, why do we need a black hole that gets 3+ million for two more years when we have to extend Quinn, Peterka, Byram, maybe Greenway and maybe someone else. I would just trade for Frost and leave Lawton alone.

THN thinking Frost as a possible candidate for Buffalo.

This guy states pretty clearly that Frost is speculation.

This is also a guy who used to write for Hockey Buzz if i'm not mistaken.

Everything here should be taken with a giant grain of salt.

If Jeff Skinner, Krebs, and Kulich/Savoie are all on the starting roster this year, Sabres don't have a chance in hell -- bottom 10 team in the league, easily, if not bottom 5.

It would be very easy for Adams to not have any of them on the team, which would be the best option, and we can handle one of them, maybe two. But all 3 is a complete joke and would lock the Sabres into JOKE status from day one.

We’re regressing!!!

I'd rather keep Girgensons as our 4th line center than trade for Laughton.
Girgs doesn’t play center and basically has never played center for any notable period. Adams need to find centers to play the center position - amateur hour is over. Doesn’t have to be Laughton but it does need to be an actual center.

He was the Sabres #1 center under Nolan.

He hasn't played center in almost a decade, though.

Either way, its time for him to move on.

Ok

He played center all through junior and was drafted as a center but that wasn't the point of my post.

If Adams signs Laughton predict you’ll be fine with it and will be one of the first ones defending him.

Given the smoke around KK, I think there might be something centred around Kakko for 11th overall.
Is there really smoke around him, or are their annoying fans just having a tantrum over him not scoring enough?

I’d consider that trade.

I meant recently. I know he was a center a generation ago and sucked at it. The idea of signing him so you don’t have to sign Laughton is ridiculous.

We don't have to sign either, though we would have to trade for Laughton. I'm good with upgrading over Girgensons but Laughton is a downgrade.

Right. I forgot that there’s two people called KK. My post was about smoke between the Sabres acquiring Kakko, the Rags moving on from him, and why he’d be a fit.

11th for Kakko is too rich, but Goodrow and Kakko (with whatever add from Buffalo) I’d do.

I'm really going to hate this f***in offseason aren't I?

You’re a Sabres fan. Of course you are.

I'd be fine with Goodrow and Kakko... I would even consider Goodrow as a 3C option who has experience and plays an aggressive game, can PK. Haven't looked at his career faceoff numbers yet but it's an interesting idea. 15-team NTC though...

Edit, career 50.9% but only takes under 400 a year regularly.
