I feel like the most obvious outcome is that we sign the three meatiest meathead you’ll ever meet to run into walls and take penalties all year….but the scoring in the top nine bounces back, the power play starts working and the goalie tandem plays above average all year so we break the drought and then listen to Peters and every Buffalo Bob with WGR on speed dial credit all that grit.

I think in the scenario where there’s a trade for a player of that caliber there’s probably an understanding that he’ll re-sign or else the deal isn’t done.

I agree that I’d do Power+Cozens++ incidentally but I wasn’t sure if most would agree.

I would most like to do one of those big package for a great player in their prime deals you see sometimes. Because 11 overall, Savoie and or whoever from that bucket, a guy from the second tier bucket and a second in 2025 all have something in common. They aren’t going to do one thing to help this team in 2024. If you’re telling me I can move things that aren’t going to help me…get someone who will be one of our top forwards for years to come…and I still have multiple 1st round players and a ton of depth in the prospect pool…knowing everyone can’t make this team no matter how long we wait…I’m dancing in the f***ing streets.

I assume that given the choice, Edmonton would choose Cozens over Tage......and would likely choose Savoie and #11. Yes, that package would hurt.....but we're in a rather unique position that it actually wouldn't be that bad.

That's a pretty pretty solid top 6.

Then on defense.....we'd still need that physical top-4 RHD to pair with Byram, assuming Sammy-Dahlin remain a thing.

Then we'd still have Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund, Wahlberg, Strbak, Novikov, Komarov in the pipeline.


We're in a REAL good place to make a quantity-for-quality deal.

Your player evaluation abilities.

it's internet slang which means what someone believes doesn't align with reality, so to cope with that disagreement they are trying to convince themselves that something untrue is actually true. copium is the metaphorical drug they take to convince themselves of that.

While it's probably a fair proposal on paper... Absolutely no way.

The upgrade from TT (or even Cozens) to Draisaitl is not worth Power ++.

Then you'd likely have to make Draisaitl the highest paid player in the league. Draisaitl isn't worth almost double TT's salary either. I'd use that extra cap space on extending Byram and/or on a premier defensive 3C

This isn't the way to win.

Personally, it is more about not taking the 11th pick off the table if the deal is right.

I think Rivet makes a good point when he talks about preferring to move prospects that are already in the system and then use the pick to add a younger guy into the system and spread the talent out.

We are already seeing the issue of having more young, offensive minded top 6 wingers in the system than there are spots on the NHL roster.

Trading Rosen and/or Kulich and drafting Catton while keeping Peterka, Quinn, Benson, and Savoie keeps the roster and the pipeline in a good place.

It all comes down to what other GMs want. Some might prefer the 11th pick over guys like Rosen and Kulich.

I wouldn't have a problem parting with a Savoie, Ostlund, Quinn or Benson either if that's what the other team wanted & it made us better. But the latter in particular would be tougher to part with given how they're already integrated with the team.

As posted above - i think you have to eventually part with at least two of these guys regardless of who else you bring in. May as well do it now before their value tanks.

Scapegoated? What was Girgs ever blamed for? Girgs was lucky if fans even remember he was in the lineup. The guy was the most unassuming player for years.

I will agree fans will be missed once fans realize they miss his game.

As compared to everybody putting it into every deal for every player ever? That’s what I’m talking about. Ryan Strome is not worth 11oa. Anthony Cirelli is not worth 11oa. But here we are, just shoveling that pick into every thought.

Strangely, that was one of the few nuggets of wisdom from Tim Murray: he said if I use all of these pics, how can I sign them all. We already see a guy with a skill set missing from the prospect stable who was pushed down a tier rather than getting opportunity to hone his craft in a better league because they have so many small skill guys.

The writing was on that wall when they used all of those draft picks in the first and second rounds over two seasons.

Most prospects start to devalue the moment pick is made. Part of the value of the selection is that the selector has the option to use it in any of a variety of manners with whoever is still available. It holds even greater value when the outcome is nebulous, when the draft order is as yet unknown, not set in cement as it were. There’s far more possibility of just the pic than the reality of the prospect player.

Some people will have a negative reaction to it, but I wouldn't end trade talks if any young forward, including JJP, Quinn, and Benson, were part of the ask from the other team. However, I could see things breaking down because I value certain young forwards more than another team would when it comes to trade value.

It all needs to come down to does the trade make the Sabres better in 2024-25 and into the medium term or not. And can the Sabres add the needed pieces to the NHL roster without going crazy with unloading massive amounts of futures like I expect some fans will put out there in some overly ambitious mock offseasons.

ADB moved for 7, 39, and a '24 3rd at the 2022 Draft.

Kirby Dach moved for 13 & 66 at the 2022 Draft.

Fiala moved for 19 and Faber at the 2022 Draft.

I really wonder what 11OV alone could get the Sabres.

His possession numbers are really not good. If the Sabres add him, he's the fan's whipping boy almost immediately as he is a guy who has a reputation that exceeds what he actually brings on the ice.

I could see it being 11oa and something else for Laughton and Florida 1st round pick.
