Will fix everything
ake. Sure, maybe a couple guys might come here if we're offering 500k more. Maybe a couple guys might come here i
You don't need a couple, you just need 1. At least for the role Malenstyn fills.

And if you want to get further into the weeds, we actually have this role filled ably by Greenway, though he has the ability to play further up the lineup, so I don't mind getting another body for the 4th line

But certainly don't give up an asset to do it.

How can we even say this? Quinn and Peterka have been fun players in their brief time in the NHL, but neither has established themselves as a KNOWN hockey player the way countless prospects eventually do, they're just interesting young pieces who haven't yet meaningfully contributed to a good hockey team. Any team has prospects succeed like this. Benson had a surprise/nice 31 point season. Other teams develop prospects into superstars on occasion, we haven't done that yet. Nothing being done in Buffalo is remarkable, except MAYBE the fact that there are a lot of guys that look somewhat exciting at the AHL level or below. Call me if you've heard that before.

In 2005-2006-2007, Roy/Vanek/Miller/Gaustad/Pominville/Campbell were all developed by the Sabres into players that everyone in the league knew about, because they were playing in and contributing to winning massive games. That is the sort of thing that would make me remark on seriously good scouting/drafting/development.
Never said it was remarkable. Buffalo hasn’t been remarkable at drafting and developing for decades.

How can I say that? The quantity of quality prospects in the Sabres system right now is something I’ve never seen. It helps having so many picks high in the draft but they’re drafting the right players also. The majority of these high picks are developing at or above expectations.

There’s still room for failure, as I said Ruff has to create the winning structure.

If they get Kadri they get 3 centres making just north of 42 million. Kadri is still a solid player at 33 but I'd be real worried taking him til he's age 39.
I would rather allocate that than 28 mm for 3 lhd. Bit more importantly Kadri pushes Cozens and Krebs down and can fill in on the top line in the event of injury. As he ages moving to 3/4 c isn’t a bad thing in a rising cap world. Cozens can be the dedicated match up C that he seems to do well at and Krebs has a dedicated role. Jmho.

The doghouse
Glad we added someone we needed. I still want (I get we won’t add all of this):

Another 4th line winger (girgensons or someone else physical w/ speed)

4th line center

Middle six scoring winger (if they cut skinner, which I’m in favor of)

Third line center.

I think I can live with our defense, but a physical defensively bottom four guy would be nice.

We have 1 day more to fix this our it Will be something like this and we miss playoff because 3-4 line
For all my optimism about Ruff, he is not a magician. Adams also never takes into account the risks (injuries, regression and instability of players, especially young ones). We have the youngest team, but we need experienced and good NHL players. Lindy got them with the Devils and made the playoffs once. And when several key players got injured the next season and the goalies gave up, he left.

We need proven 3C, we need top 6 (ideally) or top 9 forward. Possibly top 4 RD.

According to CapFriendly, Tampa has $16,500,000 in cap space, they can easily sign Guentzel and Stamkos and keep Cirelli.

Tampa and Washington are refusing to die and making it harder and harder for the Sabres to get competitive especially when the Leafs are still dominant and Ottawa is making meaningful adds. Montreal has been steady drafting. Florida is pretty much running the same team back minus a few. Boston never misses a step ever. Pittsburgh will still be competitive, Carolina, Rangers will compete for their division and New Jersey should be firmly in the mix of a playoff spot. Columbus has been adding as well so between Montreal, Buffalo, Columbus and Ottawa.. which team is gonna step over the others?

If Sabres want to establish themselves at anytime in the next few years, Adams needs to do shit now or no matter what we will always be in the shadow of every single team in the Eastern Conference trying to claw for whatever wild card spot opens against other teams that get shit done.

100% I just don't believe they're going to make the playoffs with this roster, with so many young players on the roster, with Krebs as the 3C, etc.

Marino and a 5th just went for 2x 2nds. We’ve needed a top 4rd for all 5 years of Kevyn’s tenure and he doesn’t beat that?

He trades a 2nd for a 4th line winger?

Are you kidding me?

They can, it's debatable whether it can be "easily done" though. They will be leading the league, or close to leading the league, with $775 - $800 K players rounding out their line-up. Of course, teams like Tampa always get a good reclamation project or two in those spots.

The way we can counter a team like Tampa is with better depth. The way to get better depth is to get serious about spending some money on middle-six level forwards. Buyout Skinner and go out Monday and bring in 3 of Stephenson, Foegele, Domi, Duclair, Monahan, Wennberg, Roslovic, etc.. For it to work we will need bounce back years from at least two of Thompson, Tuch, Cozens and a big step forward from one or two of Peterka, Quinn, Benson. But it could work. My fear is we can't find a big trade to make, so we won't buyout Skinner and we will be picking through the likes of Sam Carrick, Ryan Lomberg and Chris Tierney.
