He doesn’t touch him, though. I wish I could say I haven’t seen a penalty called when the penalized player doesn’t even touch the “victim”... but I did watch last nights game.

Of course he touches him, watch DeBrusks helmet.....the lengths you have to go to justify that and say he didn't make contact, scares the crap out of me.....

Touché

I’m not sure he didn’t touch him and in the bang bang world with Kadri having that suspension... many of us in the Leafs GDT were surprised.

Just because you’re biased to the point of seeing things, doesn’t mean it’s a widespread problem.

That’s maybe a penalty in the preseason.

Yes, THAT is why the referee gave him a warning, because he did nothing wrong, right? Speaking of bias, if they were bias, why WOULDNT they call that? I mean, that's probably one of the easier calls to make in todays game....

Naw....blows your refs are biased narrative out of the water...i get it.

They already have that, and it works. The main problem with officiating is not officiating, it's trying to understand officiating through fan bias, and not a lot of people can do that, it's called being a fan.
Yep, the two biggest factors in perceived inconsistency are: 1) incorrect citation of the rules; and 2) comparing situations that aren’t exactly the same. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen people cite goaltender interfence “rules” that were either false, or made up, while comparing two instances that are almost never the same.

I guarantee the next time you see people complaining about a call, the actually rule will not be posted once anywhere in the conversation.

Yep, and add in the lens of fan bias, which, I get it, it's there, it's a real thing, but it doesn't add up to conspiracies, or even incompetence, it's mainly reflection of the fan themselves that they are unable to get around being a fan and watch a play objectively, some can, most can't.

The ref gave him a warning because he saw the swing.

Maybe they got a call that they were being too obvious, after the second?

And how do you justify pretending that that’s a penalty, but not Chara punching Gardiner in the face, or Marchand delivering the Bruins’ 4th headshot of the series to Marner?

I'm not justifying anything, I'd have to watch that scrum again, but very rarely are they going to pull anyone other than the principals out of a scrum,

And the Marchand headshot....call it even with the Kadri shot, and move along I suppose.

I'd rather spin the wheel than risk the Jets getting St Laurent for an entire series

Leafs were the 28th most penalized team this season, the Bruins were the 7th.

PIMs in Boston are 49-19, favouring the Bambis.

In Toronto, it’s 6-4 favouring the Leafs.

Based on the regular season numbers, and the whole “refs put the whistle away in the playoffs” thing...

How do you explain that discrepancy?

Toronto suddenly became dirty, and Boston fantastically clean, just as the playoffs rolled around, but only in Boston?

Except he actually makes contact. And also drove Marner’s head into the ice multiple times in a play last game... After Marner received two headshots in the first two games.

That’s the problem. It’s easy to say “call it even” when your team isn’t getting all the penalties while the other is at least equally dirty.

No, Boston's carried the play for the games in Boston, when you do that, you draw more penalties, when you are chasing the game, you take more penalties, it's not hard

You don't know who my team is lol, the fact that you assume I am a Bruin fan, speaks VOLUMES to your own fan bias

That’s the thing though... they didn’t definitively carry the play. Game 1, the Bruins were dominating for the first 10, and then it was pretty even until the Leafs got into penalty trouble. Game two, the first period saw the Leafs come out strong, only to get whacked with a bunch of penalties.

This last game, the Leafs were having their way with the Bruins, until the penalties started raining down.

You say you’re not s Bruins fan, so are you watching these games?

No team should get steamrolled by the refs when they are in an elimination game. I would love for this series to go 7 and Leafs get 6-1 powerplays. Man that would be epic.

Doesn’t make contact.

Debrusk could have easily gotten a boarding call. Went straight for the numbers.

Seriously???

Is this supposed to be an example of tbe 'unbiased' commentary on the supposed biased reffing favoring the Bruins???

Kadri cross checks him in the back of the head and your claim is 'no contact. Should have been boarding'

Ok. What ever you want to say.

Can someone rename this thread to what it is... a place for Toronto fans to bitch and whine about their team being undisciplined and taking a bunch of penalties the fans dont like?

Then you loved the reffing last night in the Toronto game?

I did. A well reffed game doesn't mean equal amount of penalties. Toronto kept committing infractions and thus got called often. That's a sign of a well reffed game.

Are we adding Pittsburgh to the teams the league is trying to move ahead?

Lots of missed calls in the Flyers game this afternoon. One two handed trip that led directly to a goal.

Or is it just human mistake?

Regardless if any of the penalties last night were bogus or not, it was pretty clear one team was getting "help" to get back in the game.

Golden Bear hockey, i'll take a guess that your name came from the U of A Golden Bears hockey team, and your an Oiler fan who jumped on the Bruins bandwagon for the playoffs.

The issue that drives me crazy is when there is a replay of a blatant infraction and it’s not called ...and you see the referee is looking right at it.
Regardless of the team and you wonder wtf?
It’s so inconsistent fir all teams

I don't know, I saw a play in the Vegas series where they called a penalty after watching the big screen. Should they us the big screen or not, I guess that speaks to consistency.

All these Bruins fans seem very concerned with striking an opposing players head. Can I get their commentary on this "hockey play" by Marchand?
