7pm April 2nd 2013

Couldn't find the lines for tonight so used last nights apart from the new addition and Ellis in net.
Tlusty-E. Staal(C)-Semin
Skinner-J. Staal(A)-Dwyer
Bowman-Nash-Jokinen
LaRose-Brent-Westgarth

Gleason(A)-Corvo
Pitkanen-McBain
Harrison-MA Bergeron

Dan Ellis gets the nod tonight while Pete Dawg sits comfortably on the bench.

The Hurricanes power play is 0-for-11 in their last two games and 16-for-126 (12.7 percent) on the season, which ranks last in the NHL. Despite the effort level being present on the power play in Toronto and Winnipeg, the execution has been lacking for a large majority of this season.

Tonight we get to see our latest addition to the Hurricanes and none other than Marc-Andre Bergeron. According to head coach Kirk Muller, Bergeron will wear #47.

“He’s a veteran guy, and I’ve worked with him before. We’ll simplify it at the beginning,†Muller said. “He has enough base and hockey sense to jump in and feel comfortable.â€

We'll also be missing Ruutu for the second straight game with a lower body injury.

Tonight's game marks the fourth of five meetings between the Canes and Capitals this season. After topping the Caps 4-0 in Washington, D.C., on March 12, the Hurricanes dropped a disappointing 3-2 decision at home two days later. The deflating loss, in which the Canes saw a 2-0 first-period lead disappear in the final 40 minutes, began a seven-game winless stretch that Carolina snapped Saturday in Winnipeg. :help:

And as usual, especially this late in the season and still being the in playoff race I can't help myself but to post this.

Now lets go out and win this game...

We still have around a 30% chance of making it even if we lose and the Jets win tonight, according to Sports Club Stats. Of course, Sports Club Stats does not take into account the fact that we will have lost 8 of 9 games.

That GIF is a beautiful thing. Esp the collapsing tail at the end.

Tonight? 4-0 loss.

PROVE ME WRONG.

You know, I actually like those chances, all things considered. The fact that we will have lost 8 of 9 during a half-season should by all rights have taken us completely out of the picture. Especially when you throw in the 3-4-0 start to the season and the fact that we've been horrific against our own division during a season when our best shot at the playoffs is to win the division.

Coming out of that smoldering ruin of a season with a 30% chance at the playoffs is actually pretty generous. I'll take that and run with it.

There's really no point in holding him back. If Ellis plays a game or two and gets re-injured, that's no worse than continuing to lose games with Peters and then bringing Ellis back for a meaningless stretch run.

For his sake more than ours. Don't see him sticking around for next season personally.

I miss Cam Ward.

Getting injured was probably the best thing that could happen to him. If there was any doubt that this team/organization needs him (which was brought up when Ward had his poor start), it should be gone by now.

Ward is this team.

A loss and a Jets win puts the Canes 6 points back with 3 in hand and one game each still to play against Winnipeg and Washington. Not only would they still be in it, they'd still control their own destiny.

San Jose is the lone team with scouts in the building tonight.

That might be the most telling tweet about tomorrow. Still, after getting Bergeron, and with Sanguinetti and Faulk getting healthy, that's 9 defensemen. Something has to give.

Rewind to last time we played the Caps at PNC. Caps came in stinking, Canes came in on top of the division. Caps won and go on to play good hockey. Canes start stinking and look a mess.

Tonight is the night to return the stink back to the Crapitals.

Besides, who's being waived? They're not giving up on Sanguinetti, they just spent an asset, however small, on Bergeron, McBain has value and there's no point in waiving Corvo or Harrison.

No need to fear waivers after tomorrow.

Fear exposing someone to waivers or fear yet another waiver claim?
