That says more about how the Steelers are using their O line compared to the strengths of each individual player…they’re trying to get some of these players to fit a square peg in a round hole….determine how the O line should block and get players who fit that scheme…if you’re stuck with good players who don’t fit the scheme, then change the scheme…this isn’t rocket science…it’s about coaching, you know, putting the players you have (not who you want to have) in the best position to succeed…

Which really lends credence to my theory that schematics are the root cause of our issues.

But he's not and anyone who watches any Steelers games knows he's awful. He and Mason literally lead the Steelers offensive line in allowing QB pressure.

Jones didn't give up one pressure last week and was decent on the run. Not to mention HES GETTING BETTER.

PFF had Watt as like the 5th best linebacker when he was leading the league in all defensive categories. Those grades mean nothing

The grades are like NHL advanced stats - they have meaning if you have some sort of eye test. Dotson was horrendous here the last 2 years, but when I look at our OL PFF stats, they are all bad in basically every category. To me, that isn't a line issue (yet)...that's a coaching/schematic issue. Additionally, you can want to play a certain style, but if you have a roster full of guys who aren't built for that style, it's really set for failure.

Dotson was good here until Canada and his scheme came on board. His rookie year we thought we had a steal on our hands. Canada comes in, institutes this specific zone blocking scheme and all of a sudden he sucks.

They draft Najee and then run an offensive scheme that is the antithesis of how he runs the ball. I don't know why this is so evident to everyone who watches the team, but not at all evident to the people who run and coach the team. It's absurd.

I kinda got where Whitlock was coming from but calling the NFL Enron is one of the dumbest things someone has ever put on paper.

To compound the stupidity, Daniels struggled at first at RG as well. Daniels was a LG in college and Dotson was a RG in college, yet our brilliant coaching staff decided to play both of them out of their natural positions

Foster and moats both said Dotson had attitudes issues didn’t really invest much into his body to stay healthy and focus. He barely beat out Greene and couldn’t pass block at all. He still gets beat when he has to pass block and Stafford is a statue

Daniels was a C in college. He was drafted just outside the first round as C. How they determined who played C between him and Cole, I have no idea, but when we brought Daniels on board, I almost thought for certain that is where he was going to play.

I agree that Dotson had attitude issues. I found some of the things he said when speaking to the media after we signed Seumalo to be very telling about his character. They asked him what he was going to do with the Steelers signing Seumalo and his answer was basically, "it is what it is and they brought in a guy and he's going to be the starter." Not that he was in any way wrong, but you would have liked to see a little more fight and fire in him.

Yea, I mean it's pointless to debate this offense or players in it until Canada is gone.

Daniels played LG his first 3 years in the league. Played his 4th year in Chicago at RG, before signing with the Steelers for the 2022 season.

I had just assumed Daniels, since he had 3 years at LG, would plug in at LG and that Dotson, who was pretty good in 9 starts at RG, would go into year 2 at RG.

It’s not just Canada. It seems to be the entirety of the offensive staff except perhaps the WRs coaches.

It's Tomlin's offense

Haha- not concerned with "obscure stats". Like how he he's gone the longest of any Steeler HC without a playoff win or the only team to have 40+ points put up in 3 playoff games

Dude is totally swimming in his sea of bullshit

Pretty sure I remember after he was drafted.. might have been kiper who had a snippet about Dotson where during some sequence, he was telling the opposing linemen the play and then still beating him. “for a challenge” or something. Like wtf that’s not a pro that is a con lol..

It’ll be so painful when they hire Eddie Faulkner as OC.

Tomlin was such a loser in yesterday’s pressers.

I don’t get bringing in King and playing him one snap before cutting him. Sullivan is giving up a 118 passer rating, a season after Sullivan was one of the worst guys in the league. It’s like 20+ games of crap from him in different systems.

I liked Rush a lot pre draft though

Why get concerned about little things like winning playoff games when your boss and the media sing your praises for being Mediocre Mike?

Yeah, Dotson needed to go to a run heavy scheme. He would be perfect in a place like Indy, except they have the best LG in the last 25 years there though.

It's time? We are way past that. Reading the excuses for Tomlin in the comments is absolutely comical.

Here is the stat that really matters, one that is never mentioned, because it would shatter the illusion the media has created about Tomlin:

Since their last SB appearance 13 years ago, Tomlin is 3-7 in the playoffs.

That’s not a typo - 3-7

Ppl can use whatever BS stats or rah rah arguments they like to defend Tomlin, but there is no way around the reality he’s been a colossal playoff failure.

Witherspoon and Dotson are stars in LA lol. No scheme here for any offensive lineman to succeed in reality.

Witherspoon was our best corner and they cut him because he had a bad game with a pulled hamstring in Philly.

I always thought Tomlin was good at getting talent but had at coaching that talent. Now I'm not so sure he ever knew what he was doing and now I think he has even less of a clue.

I do believe two absolute things about Tomlin - he is a good HC in terms of being a figurehead and a motivator. Atrocious football mind and refuses to surround himself with good football minds unless they are thrust upon him, which is his downfall. I truly believe if he hired really strong coordinators, he'd have another Super Bowl or two that are rightfully his.

He's also a good evaluator of talent. I think the WR well that we constantly pull from is all him. He was a WR and he just knows what it takes to be a good one.

I do believe his approach as he gets older of pitting guys against each other is kind of wearing out now that we are seeing a different generation of person as an NFL player. One size fits all approach doesn't always work and the guys who are in the early 20's sometimes need some kid gloves. Not saying it's right or wrong, and it's certainly not the coaching many of us were used to, but sometimes you have to build guys up and piling on them is not necessarily the best approach. Dotson kind of touched on that fact when they interviewed him in LA and how Tomlin's approach is way different than McVay's.

Witherspoon was hurt and missed a ton of games last season and was picked on a ton when he was healthy Dotson isn’t a star he had 1 decent game so far and he gave up a sack in that game against Arizona

The story on Witherspoon has always been about consistency. He’ll have a stretch where he looks like he can be a shutdown guy and then have a stretch where he’s a total liability. I guess time will tell whether he’s actually figured it out or if this is one of his hot streaks.

Rush read as a big safety to me. Could be a good zone corner. He'll get burnt in press, I think. Could be good as a nickel coming off the edge potentially.

Super speed, massive in size (super long arms), and a willing tackler. Totally worth that gamble. He's Cory Trice Jr 2.0. Cannot stay healthy no matter what he does.
