That says more about how the Steelers are using their O line compared to the strengths of each individual player…they’re trying to get some of these players to fit a square peg in a round hole….determine how the O line should block and get players who fit that scheme…if you’re stuck with good players who don’t fit the scheme, then change the scheme…this isn’t rocket science…it’s about coaching, you know, putting the players you have (not who you want to have) in the best position to succeed…
Which really lends credence to my theory that schematics are the root cause of our issues.
But he's not and anyone who watches any Steelers games knows he's awful. He and Mason literally lead the Steelers offensive line in allowing QB pressure.
Jones didn't give up one pressure last week and was decent on the run. Not to mention HES GETTING BETTER.
PFF had Watt as like the 5th best linebacker when he was leading the league in all defensive categories. Those grades mean nothing
The grades are like NHL advanced stats - they have meaning if you have some sort of eye test. Dotson was horrendous here the last 2 years, but when I look at our OL PFF stats, they are all bad in basically every category. To me, that isn't a line issue (yet)...that's a coaching/schematic issue. Additionally, you can want to play a certain style, but if you have a roster full of guys who aren't built for that style, it's really set for failure.
Dotson was good here until Canada and his scheme came on board. His rookie year we thought we had a steal on our hands. Canada comes in, institutes this specific zone blocking scheme and all of a sudden he sucks.
They draft Najee and then run an offensive scheme that is the antithesis of how he runs the ball. I don't know why this is so evident to everyone who watches the team, but not at all evident to the people who run and coach the team. It's absurd.
