OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: They Killed Kenny!

I honestly feel like this game was only close because of how bad the Steelers secondary was today. If the defense has a good game, this is easily a double digit win. The Packers weren't good at all today.

The running game is like the only positive to take out of this game.

I want to believe in kenny i just dont know anymore. Doesnt do anything to win and didnt do anything to lose.

This is by design. This is how the team wants the offense to be set up.

I don't understand why they drafted a QB in the 1st round just to say "your job is to not turn the ball over and let the run game carry the offense", but that's what they're doing.

Eh, most were in the first few games, but he's probably thrown a good 6-7 passes that should've been interceptions so far this year, some right in the hands of db's, that's he's lucked out on them being dropped, a couple of them today.

But, as others have said it's likely true that this abominable offense is intended to be this conservative by Tomlin, so have to always keep that handicap in mind.

Would love to see the offense just go balls out one F'n game.

That's the only chance for this team to get into the upper echelon of teams.

stinky binky

This is how their pass defense has been all year though. They let up a ton of yards but continue to make very timely interceptions. I think through the first like 4 or 5 weeks every WR1 they played had their best game if the season.

I would like to believe their hope and belief is that over time, as Pickett plays more NFL, they can load more on him. I think them handing him the ball to get a 3rd down to close it out is a sign that they don't think he's just there to make up the numbers.

But they're absolutely built around "Pickett, don't lose us this game, and the others will win it" this year.

I don't know why they're waiting for him to be more experienced to do that. He's already old for "young QB" standards. It's only his second year, but he's mature for a 2nd year player.

I clearly don't want Pickett to be the focal point of the offense, but I also think they're being crazily overconservative with him and I don't really understand why. The passing game is just check downs and 10 yard slants because Tomlin and Canada want the passing game to be that.

This all comes back to the question of "why did you draft a QB in the 1st round if you don't trust him to throw the ball?". Yeah, he has moxie, is a good leader and has some nice physical traits (specifically with running the ball), but you don't draft a QB in the 1st round if that's the role you envision your QB to fill.

I suppose the positive is not turning it over. Just wish the stats were better.

:dunno:

Maybe I'm wrong anyway. Or maybe this is par for the course with Steelers conservatism. Or maybe they think they made a mistake picking him. Who knows. ll hope and maybe.

The one other thing I would point out about this game - pre the Titans game, I saw someone pointing out that QBs coming off of rib injuries made 40% less throw attempts, something like that. I doubt his ribs are fully recovered. It's possible that they're trying to limit Pickett even more than usual. But I said usual, because this conservatism isn't new.
