I do know JPJ didn't have a ton of picks in college (only 1) but that may not necessarily be because of bad hands. We'll have to wait and see. Ike just flat out could not catch a football. It was that simple. He was very good in coverage at his peak. It's interesting to think how different Ike's legacy as a corner here would be if he had even just decent hands.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers
Favorite pick: Nick Herbig's NFL future is likely at off-ball linebacker because he's undersized by NFL edge rush standards. That said, he's a physical, twitchy, bendy high-motor football player. Smart, stout at the point and always near the ball, Herbig's athleticism shines on tape. We expected him to go two rounds before he did.
- R1.14. Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia (1.14)
- R2.01. Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State (1.14)
- R2.18. Keeanu Benton, DL, Wisconsin (3.29)
- R3.30. Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia (2.21)
- R4.30. Nick Herbig, LB, Wisconsin (2.18)
- R7.24. Cory Trice, CB, Purdue (3.22)
- R7.34. Spencer Anderson, OG, Maryland (6.12)
Best value: Cory Trice excels as a tackler and is an asset in run support. At his size, his NFL future may be at safety, or as a hybrid chess piece. He can sometimes get too handsy in coverage downfield, but you can coach that. You can't coach his size (6-foot-3 and 206 pounds) and speed (4.47 40, 6.70 3 cone, 4.06 short shuttle).
Most surprising pick: Darnell Washington was considered a top-45 pick throughout much of the draft process, but some medical concerns saw his stock take a hit. Put another way: the Steelers landed one of the freakiest athletes in this entire class -- as well as its best blocking tight end -- at the end of the third round.
Just to give some perspective on Woodson vs Ike with splash plays:
Over Ike's career he had 14 picks, 3 FF, 2 sacks and 4 FR. Total of 12 years with the Steelers.
During Woodson's peak over just a three year span from 92-94 Woodson had 16 picks, 9 FF, 11 sacks, and 3 FR.
So Woodson basically smashed Ike's entire career splash plays in just a three year span.
So I think it's safe to say that lack of splash plays are why Ike never made a Pro Bowl/All-Pro team and is never mentioned in rarified air with Woodson, despite winning 2 Sbs.
Trice seems more like Ike than JPJPorter JR is gonna wear #24 in honor of Ike Taylor. I’ve been saying he’s basically another Ike, so I’m happy to see this.
Woodson was also a world class speedster that returned kicks.

It is an interesting topic - Ike’s legacy.
Woodson was my favorite player when I was a kid and the only jersey I ever owned.
Yet he never won any SBs with the Steelers while Ike was instrumental in bringing two Lombardi trophies back to Pgh.
Woodson was an all time player because not only was he a great cover guy, he made big plays… sacks, strip sacks, FR, FF, picks, pick sixes…
If Ike made more splash plays he likely would have been whispered in the same breath as Woodson, but making those game changing plays is what made Woodson so unique.
My main hope is that he keeps those hands from clutching and grabbing himself to a record number of PI penalties. If so he could be an excellent shut down corner. If anything, JPJ better have softer hands than Ike. Ike could've been borderline HOF if he'd held onto half the stuff that hit him square in the hands
Woodson vs. Ike isn't even a comparison.
Woodson is a HoFer, 11x Pro Bowler, 6x All Pro, DPOTY, 10th overall pick, and even though it wasn't with the Steelers, a Super Bowl Champ.
Ike was a 2x Super Champ, but he never even made a Pro Bowl and was a 4th round pick.
Still, even with his stone hands, Ike locked down his side of the field for basically a decade. It would be a major win if JPJ was as good as Ike.
Probably so, but even as is, he was a damn good player for the Steelers.I think that’s the crust of it all - if Ike made more splash plays it would have gotten him voted into several pro bowls, maybe an all-pro season or two, and then he would be talked about with the Woodsons and Blunts, kind of like Polo is.

I saw a blurb on Meyer's scheme and it did seem pretty challenging.Minor note on the Tackle situation - I think Meyer's scheme is a little unusual and it takes players a bit of time to adjust? Seemed that way with Daniels and Cole last year.
