Bully ball is clearly something this regime wants to play. Two really big corners to couple with Wallace and Peterson. BIg, physical OT, and one of the best disrupters in college football. I think Philly and Baltimore have been the best drafting teams the last 3-5 years, and Weidl being in that crowd makes him so valuable to us. This draft was a home run. I really hope they find a way to keep him around and don't let him bolt for another GM job.

I thought for the limited capital they had, Denver put together a good draft. The AFC North got better. Cleveland's draft was a little weird, but it has boom or bust potential. If they can get Dawand Jones' head straight, he could be great. Wypler was really good value for them. I think he's a starting C right away.

I think if he ever makes it as a starter its more likely inside, but he should be able to rotate in at olb for the time being

A guy who disrupts like that is probably going to see patterns quick. That matters a lot.

Also I'm hoping last year was our best since 2017.

He should be able to see the field in numerous ways immediately. In the very least he's a "pin your ears back" pass rush specialist. To me though, he just seems like a MLB that you can run some crazy pass rush stunts with.

Last year's draft is shaping up to be a tremendous draft also. What really puts it over the top is is Austin comes in and contributes.

I would love to know what some of these teams do to get 18-20 UDFAs right off the hop? It's crazy. Minnesota has signed 15 UDFAs. Among them are Ivan Pace (MLB-Cinci) and Andre Carter (OLB-Army). Take about some value there!

Still trying to understand how Trice fell so far.

Deep class and medicals? Maybe teams viewed him as a safety?

He’s one of the more interesting seventh rounders they have taken in awhile.

It is interesting. From what I've read it's probably a mix of injury prone/limited in what he's good at.

One article I read said that if you put him on an island in press coverage that's his comfort. Anything else and you're S.O.L

It would seem with JPJ and Trice they're looking at playing more press coverage so this could actually be a 7th that works.

Money. Especially guaranteed in the form of a signing bonus.

They pay up. Usually for noting but on hit can make it worth it

Medicals were mentioned on the nfl channel.

Also, some see him as a safety cb tweener. Im all for it, hes talented.

Medicals for sure…had some serious injuries

I mean if Trice turns into a safety I don't care, that'd be great too. His combine numbers are near identical to Terrell Edmunds - he's just a little lighter, a little taller, and posted elite agility numbers for a CB when Edmunds didn't test at all. He could be a great SS. Hell, maybe he'll be able to rotate between the two.

I'm pretty excited about the potential of that one.

Honestly I’m crazy impressed Daniel Jeremiah had 95 of the first 102 picks (day 1 & 2) in his top 150.

That’s Bob McKenzie type shit and it’s more impressive bc it’s not a poll.

Jeremiah earned his stripes this draft for me. He has his finger on the pulse, and is really good at what he does. He even called Houston trading up before the draft.

IIRC he blew out his ACL in 2021 and it continued to impact his play in 2022.

It really seemed like Khan went with more risky but potential boom prospects with their later picks. Washington falls in the same category, although he’s such a good run blocker that he may still be a somewhat safe bet.

The draft reports say that he’s too small and has short arms and won’t be able to set the edge and probably moves inside and is likely only a special teamer…Steelers also saying he will start on STs
Those reports are laughable. They don’t measure instinct and desire. Football is ”want to stick your head in there” sport. Kid has all of the measurable‘s athletically, more importantly he loves football. He’s going to blow you away.

So when do we start talking about the 2024 draft? Haha

Honestly the Steelers really don’t seem to have any major flaws going forward after all they’ve added in the off-season. It still remains to be seen how the new picks do, but I’m not seeing many flaws on the team going forward.

The only super notable name that’s a free agent next year is Highsmith. I’d be planning on not retaining him and using the 2024 1st on an edge. But beyond that, they’re sitting really well IMO.

Brugler talked up Benton as well as danny kelly picked him as the guy 3 years from now that people say “how did that team get him there”

Yep. I think LB in general is a position we need to invest in.

Man I’m just bummed I’m gonna actually have to do work at work instead of reading about draft stuff.

I know. It has been a nice rabbit hole to fall down for a couple of months.

Next year I'm really trying to assess our division.

1 : Bengals - obvious #1 a lock for 12-14 wins
4 : Browns- they're talented but still see them below around 7-8 wins

The Ravens and Steelers are a question mark. We are much much better so do we break into the 10-12 win range? Ravens are always expected in that spot.

So does our division take 3 playoff spots? Or does one of us or the Ravens fail expectations?

My guess
Bengals- 13 wins
Steelers - 11 wins
Ravens - 10 wins
Browns - 7 wins

To get there and actually win a PO game is gonna require Pickett taking a huge next step a la Burrow, and Canada and Tomlin pulling their heads out of their asses lol

Draft grades are irrelevant imo so this is me being a hypocrite. But I give it an A-. Jones just checks so many boxes. Benton same thing. Washington feels like insane value and the type of gamble you want management taking. I would’ve taken Branch instead of Porter Jr. at 32 and Rush instead of Herbig with the 4th. Minor quibbles, and regardless of my feelings Porter and Herbig are talented and were legit NFL prospects throughout the entire process. Not like they panicked and reached for a position.

Paper championships mean very little though. Let’s see these guys perform. Credit to management for bringing in 3 starting caliber lineman without losing a single guy (except your backup C). That’s how you bolster a position group.

The highly speculative forecast of the Steelers' needs come the 2nd of 2023

QB - Potentially QB2. But I suspect they'd look at a veteran again.
RB - No need to touch
WR - I think they'll take one early. Robinson feels like a one year guy and it'll be smart to future proof against DJ's new contract
TE - No need to touch
OL - Best case, you're looking to future proof RT/G/C. More likely, you're looking for starters at RT and C.

DL - Who knows.
ILB - Right now looks a really obvious place to add
OLB - Depends on Highsmith and Herbig. Anywhere from 1st and double dip to forget about it
CB - Can't see a big need coming but maybe they grab more of a slot guy
S - Would make sense to grab a guy

They'd have made it last year if Watt has stayed fit. Wouldn't have won a game, but just getting into the playoffs really doesn't require very much at all, assuming an easier schedule offsets the division and conference getting stronger.

Winning games tho is all about Pickett and the steps he takes for sure.

Was a report about how much teams spend on UDFAs and the Steelers give like zero guarantees IIRC

DL, Center, WR, CB, SS/Nickel are the needs next summer as of right now. ILB, RB, OT the ones they’ll need to pick up guys at but maybe not use valuable assets to do so.

EDGE could be the glaring no. 1 need or not one at all. Too many contingencies to guess.
