He certainly produces.

Tied for the lead in the entire NCAA in sacks per game this year with 11. And did so playing on a top team in a major conference against top tier competition.

And this year is not a fluke. He has done it his entire career. He had 9 sacks in 2021.

I am not saying that he is perfect, but he was a player most had going earlier and produced his entire career. I would not count a guy like that out.
BUT BUT BUT He is Tiny

The only thing that they didn't get that I was hoping for was a safety or corner to go over the middle to cover a slot receiver.

Did you hear the linebackers coach? I just saw his press conference and that's exactly what they intend to do with him. They want him the rotate in with those guys once he learns the defense.
and that's a good place to start, doesn't mean that where he will end up in a year or two.

I have no doubt they “want” him too…they should have picked a different player maybe higher in the draft if that’s what they wanted to accomplish…I think backup OLB was a huge need, probably more than TE and equal to DL, and it shouldn’t have been left until the end of the fourth

Well, why don't we wait and see how it unfolds before we poopoo the pick? All we could go at this point is by rankings and if he passes the eye test. Most people in the know seem to think it's a good get for us. We won't conclusively know for several years. But as it stands now I like this pick quite a bit.

Well, we had other needs we tried to fill. I don't regret at all taking Darnell Washington in the third round, do you? I think that was insane value.

We can't solve all our problems in just one draft and one free agent off season. But I will tell you this, based on what Omar Khan has done he sure as hell came damn close!

Lots of bad O-Line play in these highlights, but Herbig does have some game quickness. He tested pretty well at the combine too for athleticism. The only knock seems to be that he is a couple of inches too short, and does not have long arms. Everything else seems to be there.

I wanted more offensive players, so not really…on the other hand, I think we could have drafted a D line prospect we could convert to Edge with better upside

i wasn't poopoo the pick i was just saying he could be a back up at outside and then move to the inside as need arsis's and he gains experience. he has the biggest need to play lb and that's brains.

You can find fault with almost anything if you look closely enough. It just appears that's what you're doing. I think this was a stellar draft for the Pittsburgh steelers. The best that I can remember in a long long time. Now, we won't conclusively know how it is for several years, but we normally don't pick that high so that makes this class all the more intriguing. Broderick Jones was an absolute must! From there I think we got very good quality with the next four picks.

I think Jones may be the only one who works out long term from this draft but even still it was pretty solid and they swung for a few guys worth swinging for, but that was not Herbig lol

So you look at herbig like a bust in the making?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAWN can you play more than 1 note Charlie

He needs to move inside…it could be a few years to see if he works out…but he might …I’m not going to say bust from the get go but his chances of becoming a starter are slim

The chances of all 4th rd picks becoming a starter are slim.

The Steelers should get a big fat f for this draft. Nothing they did was right, they are as futile as the penguins trying to make the playoffs. Omar Khan conned all of us!

They had the highest paid defense and 9 defensive FA this was always going to be a defensive heavy draft
The offense has every starter under contract for 2 more years. Year 3 of the rookie Qb is when you go all in offensive typically

I would say the Steelers get a grade of a solid A! And I'm being very conservative with that.

I feel like if we're talking Herbig and athleticism and staying on the edge, then if you compare him to Highsmith he's not that different. Both weighed very light for the position at the combine, which makes sense for 3-4 OLBs compared with 4-3 DEs. I'd be real curious as to Herbig's actual playing weight. Highsmith is a good example of my reason for skepticism. Listed 242lb everywhere except on his ras score (and presumably combine score) which is 248lb. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Herbig plays his football at closer to 235 lbs.

The big difference I see is that while neither had elite athlete profiles for the position, they do both have some elite traits (as DEs). Herbig has great straight line speed... but Highsmith has real strong shuttle and broad jump numbers. I feel like that's a stronger foundation for an Edge rusher.

But you can deffo make a case if Highsmith can succeed, so can Herbig. I am dubious though. After all, Highsmith wasn't meant to be anywhere near the player he is. And I look back at the profiles, and they talk about Highsmith as an ascending prospect, and Herbig as a bit maxed out.

But then we did get the guy at the bottom of the 4th. And I can't see an Edge profile going after I like more.
