Why do we assume that Arch is the second coming? He couldn't beat out Ewers, who is no great shakes himself.
Because Ewers was senior and did nothing to lose the job. Ewers was a top 3 prospect himself coming out of high school. Both dudes had similar grades and pedigree. I think Arch is a much better prospect, but Ewers is a good player in his own right. Not sure how it's going to work in the NFL for him though. He is either going to flourish or quickly fizzle.

The ball I have seen of Arch, I would safely say whatever year he comes out, he's at least top 5, and I think there will be some real talk of him being the next generational guy. Some are already saying that, but I need to see more ball.

I fully expected him to stay until 27. No reason not to.

Arch doesn't have to rush to get to his career. He's good regardless. What a life.

Being born into football royalty with your grandfather and two uncles being good- great NFL QBs would be something.

You’d have to try real hard to f*** that kind of life up.

And to his credit...he's not. He's honestly Sid levels of buttoned up.

Ehhh.

Most of the hype around him is last name. Will he develop under Sark? Yes. But we also watched a former #1 qb recruit stagnate as well. It’s honestly a crap shoot right now. Hell, by 2027 Julian Sayin might be the #1 qb in College. We just don’t know.

Sure. You're absolutely correct. He does look like he has it though - physical, mentally, and intangibly.

Arch Manning looks intriguing, but, obviously, he hasn't played enough.

BTW; I agree with Doug Whaley. The organization is paralyzed by its past; fear of the unknown; unable/unwilling to change course when necessary. They seem to think 2005 happens every year.
The author of this story is lost. You don't get a franchise QB by being mediocre but not awful every year. You need a plan to get that guy and building a team around him to help him succeed; being 9-8/10-7 every year isn't it. You go into a rebuild by acquiring as many assets as possible (some will work out, some won't) by trading TJ Watt/Minkah Fitzpatrick, etc & hiring a competent head coach and coaching staff to develop this QB.

Jim Rooney, brother of Art II and son of Dan, on Ross Tucker's podcast this week, saying people want to burn the city down if the team went 3-14. If 3-14 would guarantee a franchise QB (and a competent HC and coaching staff, I think the city of Pittsburgh and the Steelers fan base would survive that. That whole family is delusional/in denial.

If Arch = Eli Manning, he is still just a middling quarterback in today's NFL. Off the top of my head, the following are better than prime Eli:

Mahomes
Burrow
Allen
Jackson
Daniels
Hurts
Love
Herbert
Stroud

And the following are close:
Williams or Maye year 2
Stafford
Prescott
Purdy
Mayfield

I am cool to go all in on a QB in the 26 draft, I just wouldn't anoint Arch as that guy.

If it guaranteed it sure, but it doesn’t. I’m just not a massive fan of this team trying to tank. If it happens so be it, but even if you sell off everyone, you need to:

1.) Hope that you’re actually bad enough to get a top pick.

2.) Hope there’s a QB prospect worthy of taking with a top pick.

3.) Hope that QB is capable of overcoming the terrible roster that got you the top pick.

I’m not opposed to selling off some guys to pick up assets but I think maintaining a somewhat competitive roster and being very aggressive when the opportunity presents itself is the way I’d prefer this team to go.

Their belief of what the city thinks is actually the exact opposite. If they bomb this year and trade anything that isn't nailed down for the draft here, to reload in 26 and 27, then this really isn't reasonable to watch because it's just watching t he same bit of insanity over and over.

Well yeah...he's only going into his junior year of college and hasn't started yet. You're confusing two things here.

Arch is the 20th ranked prospect ever by 247. Notable mentions ahead of him - Quinn Ewers, Bryce Young, Trevor Lawrence, and Justin Fields.

So if we want to talk about pedigree - we actually have one in house. Time to let him shit or get off the pot.

What a loser mentality. Business man, not a football guy. We are doomed until he is gone. The squander left behind the last 10 years.

Have to hope Art's son, having not been alive during the 70's, has no misplaced sense of loyalty to that era and can finally bring the organization into the 21st century. If not, the team will never even come close to a championship under the ownership of the Rooney family again.

I think what Dan M brings is the same thing his grandfather did - he's a football guy...he knows and loves the game. He's coached, worked in scouting, and evaluated talented. From what I have heard they just sent him to get a business degree at UPenn so now he is getting acclimated to the business side of the house. Rumors I hear are that in the next 2 years it's going to happen. I wouldn't be shocked if Art 2 uses that draft in PGH as a natural hand off honestly.

Tbh, the main thing that list is telling me is that people have only the foggiest idea on how to project a QB and that pedigree means very little.

This is where I'm at.

I am all for admitting this is a retool and selling a few guys. But a few. I want this team to keep its pride and competitiveness. I want it to be a good landing pad for young prospects, not a toxic mess. We have the evidence in front of us that moving up to 8-11 can get you a damn fine QB and that you don't need to tank.

Do I have faith in this management to pull that off? No, but then they're not going to tank either.

My question for him then....if not Tomlin, who the hell is running the organization? Sure, there's the business side that Tomlin probably doesn't touch, but ain't nothing wrong with the business side of the Steelers. It's the football side that has an issue.

What a loser mentality. Business man, not a football guy. We are doomed until he is gone. The squander left behind the last 10 years.

What in the actual f*** is he talking about? Judging a boxing match? If the Steelers were a boxer, they are the career journeyman that gets throw in there to get beat up by the champion as a tune up fight for the real contenders.

God I hope so, but I fear it will be a "Let me have one more nice thing and stick around for the draft." Kinda like Colbert sticking around to "draft the next franchise QB".

Tomlin is not drafting and developing a franchise QB. I'd put money on it. Not because he won't but because he can't. He's got to get lucky like Cowher did and get a generational talent who is too good to be ruined.

Yeah, ArtII isn't going anywhere prior to and including the draft. This is his Coup de Gras. Not only did I bring you two Super Bowl Championships and a record 21 seasons of non-losing football but I also brought the City and Steelers fans the NFL draft in Pittsburgh.

I also believe the 3 year extension to Tomlin will dove tail into when he is preparing to seed power to Daniel M Rooney. He will be 75ish and his son will be close to 40.

Basically, I don't think Art wants to make the decision to fire Tomlin and plans to keep him as the coach til he seeds power to his son.

The list is also unintentionally weighted to fresher prospects because they grade out higher than prospects from years ago because prospects now are just better athletes. Also, this is ranking high school football players, so it's based on what they did (level of competition) and just a dart in the dusk about their mental/processing ability. Ewers is kind of one of those guys who didn't get much better in college. When he got there he was a finished product. The one thing about Ewers that we learned in college though is he has guts and he can bounce back and win in tough places. Assessments change with experience.

My high school played against Terrelle Pryor. Another dude who was a finished product the minute he left Jeanette and he really didn't get much better.

For fun - here is a list of all the QBs - many of them are still in college and coming due in the next 1-3 years.

Something else to keep in mind though moving forward about college QB’s. With the transfer portal being the way it is development isn’t going to be what it once was. We’re seeing it right now with this years draft class. Factor in NIL and unless they’re phenoms they’re going to stay all 4 years too.

I think to counteract that...kids will stay for 4. Why wouldn't you if you're making money now? And without losing eligibility now, you're going to see these meh prospects probably go to JUCO.
